I’d be very surprised if they release Richardson...

With the importance of defensive line in today’s game and the importance of defensive line in Joe Woods scheme (knowing he mostly rushes four), having depth is key.. they’ve worked to build it up this offseason, so releasing Richardson would defeat the purpose.. He is also a free agent next year so I’m sure there’s other ways to free up cap space this year if needed..

My understanding is they had around $6-7 million in cap space prior to this move, so shouldn’t take much maneuvering...

I believe Robinson did previously indicate Richardson and Keenum could be restructure candidates should the right opportunity present itself, and I would assume this is the right opportunity...

Agreed, the top DL Dalvin Tomlinson got 10.5, Richardson is due 12. Suh and Harris, also better than Richardson got 9 mill this offseason, 7-8 for Richardson gets us back under. I would extend him though, give him 15 mill for 2 years, 5 in bonus, 5 a year, thus a 7.5 mill impact a year, make this year guaranteed, and he counts 9.2 toward the cap because of a previous bonus, but saves 4.5 mill of cap and is a fair market value for Sheldon.

Win/Win

Sheldon Day was signed towards the end of last season and was on the practice squad for a few weeks, so imagine it's camp depth with the chance to play himself on the roster or onto the practice squad..

They lost Vincent Taylor and Ogunjob during the offseason, and only have Richardson, Billings, Elliott and Jackson on the roster, so they need some extra bodies...

Draft LB, DT and CB in that order it looks like.
I'm cool with any position on defense if it's BPA.

I think we'll definitely need to make some trades since we have 9 draft picks and I don't see that many rookies making the team. I usually prefer to trade back vs. trade up but I do think we're in a unique position roster-wise without a ton of glaring holes, which could make a trade-up (for a CB especially) pretty enticing if our brass values someone that much.

Is there anyway to trade up for Patrick Surtain or Jaycee Horn? imagine one of them with Ward and our 4 man pass rush.....

I don't think we should draft a LB over BPA, just get me the most talented guy in the room. Draft a LB somewhere in the first 4 picks though.

WR/CB in round 1, edge in round 2, bpa after that. I'd love Bateman at 26, if he's there.

I expect at least one of the fourths to be moved.

Trade picks for future picks if we dont like anyone of value. 4th this year, 3rd next year....6th this year, 5th next year.

Keep doing what NE has always done.

I personally think safety will be a higher priority than LB. After our 3 starters we have Redwine and 2 UDFAs from last year that basically got no playing experience. Harrison is a UFA next offseason so it would be good to have someone that can step in and fill his spot if he leaves. The LB room is full of bodies with decent snap counts, and I don't think it's a highly valued position by the front office in terms of allocating assets/resources to add to the talent pool.

Even after seemingly addressing all of our needs, I still would be highly, highly surprised to see #26 used on a LB or WR, and don't expect the Browns to take either before the 3rd round..

While the Browns can go BPA, I think it more so increases their chances of trading back to acquire future draft capital... They're in a position historically linked to taking a QB (think someone trading up for Davis Mills) or a team looking to get someone after a position run..

If the Browns stay put, I fully expect CB to be the pick with Greg Newsome as a guy who stands out if there.. Otherwise, I think Azeez Ojulari and Carlos Basham Jr make sense at EDGE...
