A lot of CBs still out there:
Richard Sherman
Steven Nelson
Brashaud Breeland
Quinten Dunbar
Casey Heyward
Barron Conley
Mackensie Alexander

And the further out things go, I can’t help but wonder if it might be a nice risk/reward to bring in Geno Atkins on a one year get minimum deal. Maybe after the draft if we don’t grab a DT?

I'm not going off of name recognition. Richard Sherman was still good when he played last year. He didn't fall off a cliff. Plus his experience in the league and his experience in this scheme should be an advantage.

As far as the scheme goes, have we seen anything that would lead us to believe that Joe Woods is not going to play mostly zone? I don't think so. So ultimately finding a #2 CB who plays man coverage a lot shouldn't really be that pressing.

From what I see, the Browns plan on playing press man quite a bit.

I'm cool with any position on defense if it's BPA.

I think we'll definitely need to make some trades since we have 9 draft picks and I don't see that many rookies making the team. I usually prefer to trade back vs. trade up but I do think we're in a unique position roster-wise without a ton of glaring holes, which could make a trade-up (for a CB especially) pretty enticing if our brass values someone that much.

I'm wondering about the logistics of this and the cap. If I understand correctly, the slotted money for each of our draft picks is allocated towards the cap already. So if we pick up a higher pick and the slotted salary ends up increasing over the cap after factoring in what we gave up (like say we trade a second this year and a future first for a first this year) how would this impact our roster? Would we be required to restructure or cut someone? How long would we have to do so? I'm sure Andrew Berry knows, but I was just curious.

Edit: Assuming we're right at the cap after signing Clowney. We might not be, I don't know a lot about the salary cap.

Would love to see the Browns put in a waiver claim on Maurice Hurst.

Hurst just gets a 80k bonus this year, not sure how you put a claim on someone who doesnt have a base salary. But they are using the term wiave, so that said, 25 other teams get a shot at him before the Browns can.

I doubt we get to claim Hurst, but DT depth is definitely what i want.

The 80K is how much the Raiders are on the hook for no matter what as part of Hurst's original $319K signing bonus.

Whoever claims him will be responsible for whatever his 2021 salary would have been.

I cant find his salary for 2021 anywhere, just a bonus, that is what i am saying. The year before he had salaries, He signed a 4 year 3 mil deal his rookie year, maybe because he got cut, no one reported it? if thats the case, he is owed about a million based on the other 3 years.

I believe it would be less than that actually. Gotta do a little manual addition and subtraction. :chuckle:

Per Spotrac and OverTheCap, Hurst's original contract was a four-year deal worth $2,779,044 with a $319,044 signing bonus.

That $319,044 would be spread out evenly over the Raiders cap at $79,761 per season. So his base salary for the four years would be $2,460,000.

2018: Base Salary $480K + Signing Bonus $79.76K
2019: Base Salary $570K + Signing Bonus $79.76K
2020: Base Salary $750K + Signing Bonus $79.76K
2021: Base Salary: ??? + Signing Bonus 79.76K (paid by Raiders because of his release)

Add all that together and the Raiders have paid Hurst $2,119,044 of the $2,779,044 he originally signed for.

Subtract what the Raiders have paid from what he's still owed if his contract his claimed on waivers and his claiming team would be on the hook for...

$660,000.

Your logic and numbers are solid, but a rookie contract is escalating, i looked up all the things you did, and 650 doesnt make sense, should be like 900k or something....but that doesnt match the total reported.

Edit, i found it...920k.

Still want Collins. 260 lbs who can run. Can play Will, Mike or edge. His draft stock is rising quickly and one mock has him going 11th. Trade up and get him AB.

Trade up to get a LB in the first?

I love the LB position, but Berry is more likely to suite up and play nickel corner for us that to move up in the first to draft a LB.
