They will play some. But at the moment, the Browns should be playing a lot more press man unless something drastic changes at corner.

Let me emphasis this, Denzel Ward is a premier press man corner and is just kind of average as a zone corner. Playing heavy zone would be a total waste of what Ward does best.

But that's what we've been doing though.

We agree on what we should be doing but that's simply not what we have been doing.

Cutting over a restructure? Very unexpected. This entire board had expected a restructure.

It doesn’t matter what the entire board was expecting. Richardson may have been unwilling.

Well, uh... that was unexpected? Head scratcher.
I’m seeing two scenarios:

1. They split the saving between a CB and DT via FA or trade

2. They draft a DT, giving them Jackson, Billings, Elliot and the drafted DT as the official DTs. They then also draft a DE. Clowney and Myles both spend about 10-15% of their snaps at DT, especially in obvious pass rush situations.

This coaching staff and management team is too sharp to not have a plan that they feel absolutely confident in, given that this move was not made out of the same type of cap necessity that caused cap strapped teams to shed players.

Don’t the Saints still need to clear some cap space? Lattimore is an FA next year and NO probably can’t really resign him. Probably unlikely, but that’s one of the reasons I’d cut Richardson.

No idea what they’d want in terms of picks.

I believe this gives the Browns around $17 million in capspace, once you factor in rookie contracts.

Thats certainly enough to sign or trade for nearly anyone or to split into multiple smaller deals.

Still decent size holes at CB2 and DT2 along with depth overall. It certainly will be interesting to see what is next.

Is Hurst officially cut? Could we swoop in and get him for a late pick a la Hudson?

I understand the cap savings perspective but Richardson was still a productive player... Wonder if this was a result in him refusing a restructure?

Browns are set at 3-tech with Jackson and Elliott.. Where they could really use some depth is at NT where nothing is behind Billings, and Billings is coming off of an opt-out... So not sure if a guy like Hurst is a fit...

He is waived, makes 920k this year, need to put in a claim first or have him clear waivers. Biggest issue is we are 26th on the waiver claim, so if any of 1 of 25 teams ahead of us claim him, they get him.
