Browns Aggressive in Win

No one outside of the Cleveland Browns locker room gave them much of a chance on Sunday in Green Bay. The Packers were 6-7 point favorites entering the game, depending on what sports book you looked at. The Packers were retiring former DE Reggie White's number at halftime, nothing was in the Browns favor. Nothing except the final score Sunday evening 26-24.
The game was for the most part controlled by the Browns offense and defense. The Packers scored on their first possession of the game, but would not score again until the 4th quarter. The Browns built a 12 point lead, 19-7, only to have the Packers claw back within 2 points with just over 5 minutes to play. Trent Dilfer connected with Ruben Droughns on 3rd and 5 for 12 yards. Two plays later Dilfer connected with Steve Heiden for 62 yards and the games winning score. The Packers added a TD with 4 seconds to play to pull within 2 points, but failed to recover the onside kick, giving the Browns the win.
The win evens the Browns record at 1-1 and the loss drops the Packers to 0-2.
The Browns offense was crisp and aggressive most of the day. Trent Dilfer tallied 336 yards passing, 3 TD's and a passer rating of 131.8. It was clearly one of the best days of Dilfer's career. Perhaps more impressive then the numbers themselves was the way the numbers came. When the game was on the line Dilfer rose to the occasion and made the tough throws and the right reads.
Dilfer was not the lone star on offense however, both TE Steve Heiden and WR Braylon Edwards eclipsed the 100 yards receiving barrier. When's the last time 2 Browns receivers went over 100 yards in the same game? Who cares, they did on Sunday. Edwards showed the fans and the rest of the NFL just why the Browns drafted him at #3 overall this past April in the draft. Edwards ran a quick 8 yard slant from his own 20 late in the game, grabbed the ball and darted 72 more yards to pay dirt. The 80 yard strike was the longest play from scrimmage for the Browns since last October.
Ruben Droughns continues to impress with his strong, physical running. The Browns starting back carried the ball 15 times in the firs half, but curiously only ran 5 more times the rest of the game. The fact was the Browns were running with just enough success that the Packers had to honor Droughns ability to run which left them susceptible to the play action pass.
Heiden added 6 catches for 104 yards and 2 TD's. Heiden has become quite a weapon for the Browns over the last 2 years and has become a go to receiver for Dilfer during the 1st 2 weeks of the 2005 season.
The Browns defense was lifted by the return of starting CB Gary Baxter on Sunday. It did not take long for Baxter's presence to be felt as he picked off a Brett Favre pass in the end zone midway through the 2nd quarter to end a Packers drive. Baxter was not alone on Sunday though. The Browns were aided by a huge performance by starting LB Andra Davis. Davis amassed 19 tackles on Sunday and tipped a ball that was intercepted by Daylon McCutcheon in the 1st quarter.
The Browns defense gave up their share of yards on Sunday, many coming when the team was up by 2 scores and playing very soft. The only stat that matters tonight though is the score, 26-24 Browns win. Congratulations to head coach Romeo Crennel on his 1st victory as a head coach in the NFL. The Browns will stay on the road and head to Indianapolis to face the Colts next Sunday.

But Dilfer did not wilt under the pressure, finding Ruben Droughns for a 12-yard pick-up on a third-and-five to keep the clock moving.
My panties are in a bunch ? HMM..... I think that should go to the guy that has said
"WHAT I'M MAD ABOUT IS" BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BAH BLAH BLAH.
