All of these people will be dead by the time it's built
True, but I was jokingly suggesting bringing back the WSofR concept, not the original bands. Most of the performers aren't even performing anymore! They got old.

That said, those concerts were mega. In terms of attendance, and in terms of bringing in the biggest names in the industry at that time.

So when people boast about Lucas Oil holding over 200 events a year, it's because Lucas Oil has outbuildings that can also be used as smaller venues that attract different things. I agree with you that 200 events a year is unlikely.

However, there are, likely, a majority of events that Cleveland would almost instantly get in the event of a new dome:

Major music icons
Super Bowls
Big Ten Football Title Game
Final Four Men's
Wrestlemania
Major Boxing Events
OSHAA championship games
NFL Combine

That's all just off the top of my head. That's an extra...25 events possibly a year? As opposed to that valuable lakefront property that gets used 10 times a year?

This is all without (selfishly) adding the benefits it provides the Browns. Better GameDay facilities, more butts in seats to provide better atmosphere, easier access to the stadium, no weather affected games. It's enough for me to not care one bit where the Stadium is built, just build the fucking thing.
If Cleveland were smart it would develop such "outbuildings" for conventions and large corporate training events and connect them with the stadium. GenCon for example brings 100,000 people to Indy for over a week. The last time I was there I dropped 3k and that was without room and board.

Bring back The World Series of Rock baby!!! Stuff the stadium!

Pink Floyd
KANSAS
Rolling Stones
Jeff Beck
Fleetwood Mac

...come on now!

And with legal marijuana now...tho that still won't explain my hallucinations during the Floyd "Pigs" concert, or me getting lost walking around the outside of the stadium multiple times after the Kansas concert....ahh good times, good times (of what fragments l could ever remember!)

Oh man, Dean Wade will be collecting DNP - Magic mushrooms.

Rick Derringer, J Geils, Bob Seger, Peter Frampton. Summer 1977. SIX first aid stations within the stadium. And that was one of the weaker WSOR shows.

Legal marijuana now LOL like that mattered. Don‘t think you can smoke anything indoors now in most jurisdictions.

Have you been to a concert or UFC event recently?

Even if people aren’t actually lighting up, vaping has made it incredibly easy for people to let the good times roll.

Kansas City Browns, Oakland Chiefs, Oakland Royals incoming?

I understand the appeal of going from open air stadium to a dome in a cold climate. I also understand no caring about renovations to an existing football stadium or a new baseball stadium. For the average fan it won't change much for increased ticket prices. Like people are just going to watch football or baseball, the viewing angles aren't going to change. People already hate paying for high price food and beer.

I'd much rather have cheap tickets and beer prices stay stable than have a renovated stadium.

Except attendance to late season games is falling and weather has been actively prohibitive to humans attending football, let alone playing good football the past few years.

I don't know how anyone that buys a ticket to Cleveland Browns Stadium right now doesn't feel totally ripped off. The concessions, the seats and the weather all fucking suck.

Right I get the appeal of a dome for Cleveland and cold weather cities. I've been to those late season games in the cold and it sucks.

My reply was to Kansas City and understanding why they would turn down a new sales tax for a renovations of a open air stadium and building a brand new baseball stadium. It's really nothing of a tax 3/8 of a percent, so like 37.5 cents on 100 dollars. But pay more for stadiums that are already purpose build for the sport they are using them for probably holds little appeal for most people.

Like I said there is an appeal of going from open air to a dome. An already purpose build football stadium and a purpose built baseball stadium to a billion dollar renovated to the existing stadium and a new 2 billion new baseball stadium all with higher ticket and concession prices probably holds little appeal to the general public.

In addition to what you said, I’d have to think the most recent playoffs would majorly sway fan opinion with the Chiefs considering the windchill issues they were dealing with late in the year. Also, if I had the choice, I’d want the 2nd half of Mahomes’ career to happen in the absolute best conditions possible,

Specifically when it comes to the Royals, they have won a World Series recently but they’ve only finished above .500 3 times since 2000. That came during the three year run where they made the WS in back-to-back years.

For comparison, the Guards have finished above .500 11 times since 2000. Outside of one three year stretch, the Royals have been dreadful for the past 25 years in what has consistently been baseball’s worst division most of the time. Fans there likely don’t care if the team moves and would rather try to work toward bringing an NBA team to KC.

It's worthwhile remembering that more than 90% of self-described NFL fans have never even been to a game in person. So, a more enjoyable in-person experience holds little value for them.

And of course, that's the percentage of self-described fans. Voters consist of both self-described fans and those who aren't fans at all.

What? Wow. That is a surprising percentage, but then, I grew up near Green Bay, so people going to the game was normal....especially before tickets got hard to get. And Green Bay is not a big city... Akron is twice the size, and was probably 3x the size back in the 70s, and most of the surrounding area is more rural/farming/dairy...but the stadium still got filled by someones!
Funny, our town priest was the team "chaplain", and the 11am mass on game day (noon kickoff)...lol... 15 minutes! He had to get to the stadium! Short song, short homily, communion, short song...buh-bye.

Late to the party here, and didn’t read the whole thread, so apologies if this is old news:
1. No taxpayer $ except a loan that can make interest. Maybe. Probably not needed, frankly.
2. Dome for sure. It opens up all sorts of events and use-cases outside of football.
3. New stadium would come with upgraded food and beverage offerings and just the little things like a clean and modern vibe.
4. The whole ecosystem beyond the stadium can be really awesome. I went to Atlanta and the Braves play in this revitalized area. The vibe was fantastic and we weren’t there during a Braves game. You really do get a blank slate to make this more than just a stadium. This is independent of dome or not dome.

I think even with some rudimentary concepts or just a look around at places like the Braves’ place, people would be surprised at just how great this could be. Unlike Atlanta, weather would play a significant part in the allure for like 1/2 the year. Obviously with only 8-11 games played each year, we shouldn’t look at it like a football stadium first.

Reactions: Lee
Bears released their stadium proposal today.
Seems Soldier Field gets torn down except for the historic stuff and repurposed into a park.
