Bears released their stadium proposal today.
Seems Soldier Field gets torn down except for the historic stuff and repurposed into a park.
That will be the Big Ten championship game replacement if it exists when it's finished

No parking to speak of and no plan to connect to public transit. Indy still seems like a much better and easier experience than this proposal.

Bring back The World Series of Rock baby!!! Stuff the stadium!

Pink Floyd
KANSAS
Rolling Stones
Jeff Beck
Fleetwood Mac

...come on now!

And with legal marijuana now...tho that still won't explain my hallucinations during the Floyd "Pigs" concert, or me getting lost walking around the outside of the stadium multiple times after the Kansas concert....ahh good times, good times (of what fragments l could ever remember!)

Your weed was wet.

As far as domes go, this looks incredible. The introduction of natural light has me feeling better about a dome concept (and I was already generally supportive of it). I’ll be curious to see the price tag. The end zone glazing and glazed dome is $$.

Estimated $5B from what I saw.

I previously lived in Chicago and was talking about it with a few friends that still live there. Basically said it only makes sense if the city uses it as an excuse to overhaul the EL system. It was already dirty when I lived there almost 7 years ago now. I know there were some plans in place (or at least discussed) when they were putting in the Summer Olympics and World Cup bids.

Outside of building underground garages, I’m not sure how they address parking on the lakefront, as building above ground garages would be a complete waste of that real estate. They have to address the EL situation for it to make sense, otherwise it’ll just be a nicer building with the same issues in terms of access.

I now want to see this end up in Brook Park. Still a lot hurdles: FAA clearance for something this big so close to the airport, where the money comes from, reality to set in, etc.

The traffic is going to be a massive pain in the ass
No chance, much better than downtown.

Being able to walk to the stadium from the airport is going to make it super attractive to a lot of people/groups that would want to use the stadium or outlet buildings.

I just think it would be worse in a smaller area, since everyone will be piling into the surface parking lots - whereas downtown it's all spread out.

I used to live very close to Brook Park - I'd love to move back to the area to see these plans come to fruition.

Also, I feel like people are missing another massive plus here. As you mentioned, the airport being connected to the stadium is kind of wild.

This means no matter the event, (Browns game, NCAA Tourney, Super Bowl, etc), someone can theoretically fly into the airport the day of the game/event, walk to the stadium, and then fly back out after the game.

That ease of Airport -> Venue -> Airport would have mass appeal for a lot of industries outside of sports. You're talking about going from the tarmac to the stadium in a matter of like 20 minutes by the time you deboard a plane.

Prediction: The Muni lot tailgates will not go away, they'll just be more affordable.
