Caris LeVert: Two More Years!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Is LeVert back in 2023-24?

  • Cavs can't afford the $$$ to keep him and nothing is going to change that

  • After bricking shot after shot in the playoffs, Koby washes his hand and lets LeVert walk

  • Only if he signs for something close to the MLE

  • If Caris plays well in the playoffs, the Cavs will offer big $$$ to keep him

  • KobyAltman! No one else on the team fills his role, so stop sitting on your hands!

I guess this means that we lose the Disabled Player Exception, unless something else happens before the trade becomes official

It’s not a terrible fit this year (we lose 0 players in this trade), but it is next year.

Garland/Sexton
LaVert/Okoro

doesn’t quite give you the 3pt shooting out of the backcourt we need in my opinion.

I’m hoping the Cavs decide this off-season: trade LaVert or Sexton. Who do they believe in more?

That's not a bad rotation at both guard spots. LeVert can also play SF. I think Koby wanted a ball handling SF so they can play Sexton at the PG spot to limit his defensive issues.

This was not an amazing job by Altman. This is an absolute absurd overpay. The Pacers are popping champaign right now. I promise you.
Because they got a late first and a 2nd round pick?

Do you realize how often those two picks hit? Over the last 10 years there have been exactly 3 all star/fringe all star level players that have been drafted 20-32.

I'll take the talent over the dart throw.

So you're of the opinion Levert is worth zero assets in a trade. Got it.
He's worth another middling overpaid player, maybe if you talk yourself into it, he's worth sacrificing future cap space.

Wut?

Could work if Okoro’s 3pt shot continues to improve. I don’t want to go back to the days of playing him at the 3 for significant minutes though.

If Caris was the piece identified by the Cavs as the one which we needed , then I don’t think it was. Anything less and he’d be joining another team; and then you’d be complaining that the Cavs sat on their hands. He’s 6’6”, he joins up with JA again (and I’m certain the Cavs had conversations with JA about Caris), and we obtained the services of probably the best available package of scoring, shooting and youth which fits our timeline nicely

I didn't think it was likely they would use both unless they could limit how much the combo would impact going into the luxury tax.

It's an overpay, but not by that much. The Houston pick only has value in using it to move up in the first round this season and the Cavs were only willing to give up their 2022 first or possibly Indiana would only deal LeVert for our 2022 first as the main the piece in the deal.

It's basically a throw-in at that point that only had value to us if we were committed to someone in this draft and wanted to move up from our first round selection. It sucks to lose it, but it's not some crazy bad overpay.

Which other team?

I think Koby wanted a player with that adds flexibility to lineups. LeVert being able to handle the ball and play SF allows them to play Sexton and Okoro on defense in spots that their size isn't an issue. Sexton can guard PGs and Okoro can guard SGs while we also keep another ball handler on the floor in LeVert.
