Cavaliers Trade Ideas: 2022-23 regular season edition

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Burks, Schroeder, Gary Harris. None of those guys are bad defensively. Kemba’s not good and Eric Gordon I’m not sure about.

Cleveland receives: John Collins
Atlanta receives: Lauri Markkanen, Cedi Osman, '22 top 5 prot. frp, two '22 srp's (via Hou & SAS).

Why?
Cleveland adds a very talented player who could fit their young core.
Atlanta gets two starters, a first & two good seconds.

I'm hesitant on moving those picks but getting Collins @ that price is very tempting. I doubt the Hawks go for this but it's worth exploring.

Not happening! I doubt we went and got Markkanen just to trade him...

At around the 9:20 mark Kendrick Perkins and Vince Carter sum up my thoughts:

I think both Evan Mobley and Darius Garland *can* be the go-to guy on a championship team, but I'd absolutely love if neither guy *had* to be...

I've been saying it for 2yrs now that DG is Steve Nash 2.0 (maybe without the MVPs). Mark Price 4.0 works also. Where I think he thrives is when he's picking his spots offensively and using his gravity to find open teammates. I think his scoring offense should be the final cut that kills you, not the thousand cuts, or even one huge swipe, that kills you. I would love to see him as a 3rd/4th offensive option and 15-20ppg, with 8-11apg. Plus, there aren't many contenders in recent history with the (small) PG as the #1 scoring option.

Mobley is another guy I worry folks are overestimating on the scoring side of the ball. I don't think hes Giannis. I don't think hes Duncan. I don't even think he's AD. I think his game is gonna more closely resemble Jokers (with some KG in there). I think Evan is too cerebral, with too high of a basketball IQ to force offense and be the #1 scoring option. Him in the 20-25ppg range seems more ideal than the 25-30ppg slot. Evan is the kind of guy that carries your team system more than carrying your team by scoring. At least that's my read on him over the last couple years.

I also think this team needs a mercenary Swiss army knife kinda player. The kinda guy that can get you 30, but do it as catch-and-shoot from DG or Ev, by creating his own offense, or is able to get shots for other guys because of *his* gravity.

I kind of agree with you about Mobley, but Jokic is a better offensive player than Duncan was so I'm not sure about that comparison. Jokic is going to be averaging 25-30 for the next four or five years probably. Duncan had only one season of 25 PPG and only three seasons over 23 PPG, seems like a better comparison to Mobley. But overall it's hard to find a comparison to Mobley, he's a unicorn and we'll just have to see how his offensive game develops. He has a LOT of potential tools and none are fully developed yet.

I agree that we could use a perfect forward who can score 30 PPG without really trying, let me know how such an individual could be obtained for our team.

There is no universe in which you can get the quality of player you described for as little as you are willing to pay.

That's the problem. Nobody disagrees that it would be wonderful to have the kind of wing you describe. But it simply isn't possible to bring one of those guys onto this team this season without trading a hell of a lot more than that.

You know, the reason I'm optimistic about trades is that Rubio demonstrates how we DON'T need a superstar scoring SF to bring this team to the next level. Rubio was a good playmaker who could score and play defense, but he wasn't an all-star level guy let alone a superstar. But just having a guy who was *good* at the things we need supercharged the team and we were blowing people out.

We need a good player, and a really good match for our needs, but we don't need a superstar.

Any thoughts on going after DeJounte Murray?

He is awesome, but will cost to much, and not sure he is a 2nd fiddle type...he is a legit starting pg and probably doesnt fit perfect because of that.

I think Derick White is a better fit, cheaper, plays off ball more than DeJounte and should only cost one 1st not multiple like DeJounte.

Dont get me wrong, I loooove DeJounte's game, but not everyone fits for various reasons.

Thoughts, If Gary Harris can be had for Rubio and maybe Pangos ( salary purpose) and a future 2 …..Is that just as good as Rubio and Rockets 2 for Gordon….Watching Harris against Detroit right now , looking good

Love Harris but i think we need to do the schroeder move if we do. Gary doesnt offer much in the shooting and scoring departments

Harris is off the books after this year. I don't think he moves the needle at all for this team. No reason to give up anything for him. With their logjam in the backcourt, I would have an interest in RJ Hampton. As far as salary dumps, Ross is the person the Magic would be most likely to move on from.

I truly believe the Cavs make only one move at the deadline…..Eric Gordon.
He is exactly what this team needs. A backcourt player with size, can “shoot” AND can score (meaning he can create off the dribble).

Not a splash move but IMO a guy like Alex Len is somewhat functional and could probably be had for next to nothing. Having a big bruiser like Len could bring some value against the more physical teams like Philadelphia, Indiana, and a handful of others by absorbing 6-12 mins a game to save some wear and tear on Allen and Mobley (especially during reg season).

You've been a member since 2015 and you're first post is about trading for Alex freaking Len?

I feel like we got room to only make one trade and we lack scoring cause we lost Sexton. I think the 2/3 swingman that can score is our first priority in my mind...
