I actually don't think he should be a starter, even though he's been my favorite Cavalier since he was drafted. I think his game is best suited for energy off the bench (especially when Ricky comes back) with Love. He seems to have improved his catch-and-shoot ability (don't know if thats backed up by stats), but I think his pushing the ball and playing with reckless abandon is a bench benefit more than a starting thing.
Actually when Ricky comes back, starting makes more sense, with Osman being mainly a 3, Levert a 2-3, Rubio a 1-2 (defense he can play 2), Wade a 3-4 and Love a 4-5, his shooting and driving might be perfect starting, if Wade is healthy, give him first crack, but the +/- numbers of Okoro cant be ignored, team plays well when he is on the court, plus Okoro will need time as a defensive player off the bench.
If we ever get 100% healthy, meets will be tough to find for some.
i'd trade caris first before cedi. having don as the alpha has limited cedi's freelancing which is a big benefit for the whole team.
Good take, if caris signs for the same amount he's earning now, then it's fair. Cedi just gives more value for the dollar.cedi has like zero playoff experience...21 minutes in one game....could throw up bricks like herro .
its only nine games but levert was fukn money.
no way i take cedi over caris going into the post season...no chance....in fact...i take levert over herro ....leverts numbers are arguably the same as his indy stats especially if you take into consideration his better defensive rating.
i like this guy off the bench 25 minutes split between the 2 and three...whereas cedi is only good for the three.
unless cedi has some sort of newfound revelation after six years in the league...i dont even know why caris or cedi is even a discussion
Believe it or not, RAPTOR has Cedi as the Cavs second best player (+3.4) and 3rd in WAR (2.6).. Some of the other advanced value stats like BPM, WS and VORP don't have him quite that high.. His on/off +/- is also second best on the team (+11.4) next to Dean...
I think the Cavs really want to see a solid 2-3 weeks of what Cedi looks like with Rubio on the floor.. He was shooting damn near 43% from deep in the two months with Rubio on the floor.. Cavs need shooters in the worst way and here's to hoping Rubio can bring that back out in him..
Whomever starts in the post season needs to be able to reliably hit a three or opposing teams will live or die with leaving them open and pack the paint. If you're debating between Cedi or LeVert as a starter, you better be exploring plan C options.cedi has like zero playoff experience...21 minutes in one game....could throw up bricks like herro .

The reason you trade LeVert is because he's basically injury insurance on this roster, he's going to want too much money for that role, and he's on an expiring contract. Now if Rubio isn't back by the deadline, or is back but has a ways to go, maybe you hold onto him and hope to S&T him this summer. But his trade value is only going to further decline if you extend him and his minutes get cut. Teams like the fact he's expiring.
who cares about levert next year.....the cavs care about this year and no way should anyone think that rubio coming off his second ACL is going to be more valuable to the team than caris.
wouldnt surprise me at all if levert is the most valuable player coming off the bench come the playoffs consistently throwing up 30 min/game
In the context of the post you're replying to, I believe that maximizing assets is always important. As a life-long fan of this team, I obviously care about their success this season, but I also care deeply about this franchise beyond just this season. If there's a deal out there involving LeVert that may hurt us a little this year but improves our chances the next few years, I'm absolutely considering it.who cares about levert next year.....the cavs care about this year and no way should anyone think that rubio coming off his second ACL is going to be more valuable to the team than caris.

I understand that you're not a Cavs fan but that you are particularly high on them this season, and have put your money where your mouth is. And for what it's worth, I do appreciate the love for our boys. But I'm guessing that the majority of us on this board are tempering our expectations for this particular season, yet have gigantic hopes and dreams for the next half decade or so given how young our core dudes are. I don't think LeVert has shown enough to make us confident that he is a core piece going forward. And if that means he may walk next offseason, then I'm all for exploring what we can get for him before the deadline.

But it's really all about next year -- the expectation is to start to contend next year and the year after. Obviously we want to do as well as possible this year but we have to be doing our planning over the next couple of years, at least through the time that Mitchell's contract runs out. So the question of whether we bring Caris back and at what cost is front and center. If we aren't going to bring him back or cannot pay what it takes then frankly it's better to trade him now even if it makes us a little worse this year.
