All kidding aside the franchise needs an overhaul.

Step 1: Change Indians to something. As long as it doesn't sound like a minor league team I'm cool with it.

Step 2: Fire the horrible marketing team & whichever local agency keeps producing these terrible campaigns. I know Brokaw was involved in the late 2000's, and its been awful since. Not blaming them, but all ties need to be cut with whomever.

Step 3: Bring in deeper pockets. The Dolans have made it clear that they have no desire to sell the team. Fine. Bring in minority partners that create buzz and are willing to spend.

Step 4: Demolish the entire upper deck where the freight containers are and just make it an enclosed patio to watch the game. Standing room only. Make it an attractive spot to watch the game and people will fill that section up real quick.

Marketing problems fixed, negative PR is gone, and the fan backlash should be at an all time low.

I agree with pretty much all of this. I used to be a huge Pro-Chief Wahoo, Pro-Indians as the nickname guy. I gave a presentation about it in a high school speech class even. But honestly it's becoming more and more clear with each passing year how wrong I was. The logo is obviously racist, and the name, while less offensive, just seems like its days are numbered too. Why fight it? This is a classic wrong side of history issue. Sure you can make legitimate cases to keep it, but why? Because of good memories? My memories don't disappear if we change the name.

If the Dolans came out tomorrow and announced that next year we were going back to the Cleveland Spiders (which is a dope name with real history here too), because as much as they love and respect the name, it's clear that the tides have changed and they want to lead that charge now, they would get GREAT PR. The media would fawn over themselves to give the Dolans and the new Spiders a blow job, especially because Dan Snyder is an ass who isn't going to change. (A good rule of thumb. If you're on the same side as Dan Snyder, you might want to change sides.)

And though there might be some backlash from vocal vans, I'd be willing to bet fan interest overall (both locally and nationally) would actually increase. And what's the worst that would happen? It's not like fewer people can show up for games at this point.

Plus, selfishly, I want to be able to buy this hat.

Spiders is terrible. Probably because I abhor spiders. If they change the name, literally anything but Spiders (not that they are changing it).
