Cleveland Guardians Offseason Discussion 2021-22

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The most obvious 'need' is enough quality starters to cover 162 games.

Without Plesac we don't have that this year.

Plesac is a quality SP with four years of control well below market value...and right at the age when starters generally
come into their own.

He has been a head case that had been 'mentored' by two of the biggest head cases in baseball. But now he spends his time working out with Bieber.

This org can't afford to trade away young quality SPs with control, because of past transgressions. If the FO did things that way, both Lee and Cookie would have been traded long before they became studs for us.
I'll express my disagreement, or should I say possible disagreement. Unless the ridiculous injury bug strikes again this year then there is plenty of SP depth to deal a SP. Especially in a season that doesn't look to be a competitive one such as this. Of course that could change, but it will require a sacrifice of some sort to make that change.
fwiw - fangraphs projects us to have the 19th best rotation in mlb
They evidently don't know their asses from a hole in the ground outside of Longenhagen. Look at their assessment of Espino before Eric actually watched him. When Bimbo says that the Cleveland organization doesn't rely on outside scouting this is exactly the reason why. Rating Cleveland's pitching staff 19th is nothing short of stupid.

When it's all said and done, Jose Ramirez will be the most beloved Cleveland Indian/Guardian since Bob Feller. I can't wait to be at the ballpark on April 15th and be part of the deafening ovation he will receive.

In my Indians history, Charles Nagy, Jason Kipnis, Travis Hafner, Corey Kluber, Mike Hargrove, Carlos Baerga, Kenny Lofton…..are that list. With this, especially, Jose jumps from being on the list to the top of it.

I think the impressive part of the Cleveland starting pitching history over the past 15 years is that very few of them were ever top 100 prospects. Tristan is the exception not the rule. That means these pitchers don't have the blazing fastballs or crazy minor league K numbers but they are able to consistently get major league hitters out. San Diego has had a bunch of highly ranked pitching prospects with limited success.

Even better is that now they have guys with blazing fastballs and crazy K numbers that don't walk many either. Again, the pitching has never looked better or deeper.

You know he's played more in the OF since his call up than catcher correct?
Yeah, but a corner OF and he didn't do that because he is a better OFer than a C.

It's shortsightedness to ever think a team has enough pitching. It's also extremely foolish.

I dont and I'm not.

Plus, a bird in the hand (quality MLBer) is worth more than two in the bush (prospects).

Really shocked at the Ramirez deal, which was actually a five-year extension on his existing contract for $124 million if I'm not mistaken. This is nothing we've seen before.

I was sure they would trade him like all the others. Wonder what was different this time? Are they confident that a minority owner will be jumping on board soon?

Joe Noga nailed it, IMO:

While a profusion of young talent could be arriving around Ramírez soon, the club still lacks consistent, proven major leaguers to fill out its top-heavy lineup every day and give a brilliant young pitching staff the chance to stay in ballgames. That is going to lead to a lot of stranded baserunners, one-run losses and too-close-for-comfort games in 2022, just like it did last year.

Yep, a lot of stranded baserunners and one-run losses, especially in the first month while they give the out-of-options guys one last chance to not be this year's Jake Bauers. I'm mildly hopeful that once the weather gets hot they find a couple of decent bats from the group of Kwan, Naylor, Miller, Chang, Gimenez, and Arias.

Rose says around 2:35 that he talked to someone close to the Padres org and got the deal on the table. He said CJ Abrams and Mackenzie Gore were not in the deal. He seems to think a trade was close
