Why isnt this guy a bunch of people’s favorite player?

Bad PR team?

I love him. But his lack of passing is why people are down on him. He’s too small to play the 2. So unless we got some great passing forward we’re always going to struggle to move the ball.

Just about to make the same comment @Cavatt - he got undercut and got up and scored a career high. His durability is seriously unbelievable. And he was going after the passing lanes in end of the 4th quarter with so much energy and executing. The guy is not flashy but he has playing so much better in flow of the game and making players better. It is in progress but much better than the season started.

Collin did mention he is still looking at film and understanding what he can do better when driving to the basket. He was saying at times he makes mistake where he could have found the open man on the other side or take the shot which was a better percentage and instead of forcing it.

Really amazed how he has improved from the start of the season.

That's why I dont understand, the hate fans have towards him. It's not like he's not trying to improve on his game. It's obvious he wants to improve, so the team can get better. I won't be shocked,if Sexton assists goes up next season.

I think the fans and journalists ask too much from the young players.

I would have thought the city and fans would embrace a player like Sexton. Sexton will never be the flashiest player on the court but he does the little things to help the team win.

I am guilty of this... I am just a fan of traditional point guards... Still believe that for the Cavs to be successful they'll need to choose between Garland or Sexton and trade the other... If they keep Sexton, he needs to be partnered with a playmaking SG (that may be Porter if he develops consistency and restraint/control) or get a point-forward (ala Bulls Pippen)...

I don't hate the guy though, he is smart, seems to be a nice down to earth person outside the court and seems to be all about ballin... Just frustrating sometimes on the games when he has tunnel vision...

An effect of the all out style of Sexton is how much he scrambles the defense of an opponent when he
makes one of his speedy dashes from end to end bringing the ball up court. Not only are players on the
other club in full scramble mode, such plays also take some wind out of the defense. Of course, there
would be more positive results if the Cavs had more guys who can run with him. And you can't help
noticing how much he has improved on tempering his drives when there is nothing to be had.

BTW- I get the Utah telecasts here when they play the Cavs. Last night their announcing team
talked up Collin. Matt Harpring, the analyst said Sexton would be talked about as a coming star
if he played in a bigger market or the Cavs were a better team.

And can we please keep in mind that he is 21 years old with less than 2 years pro experience
and a 33 game college career. Cavs are going to discover one of the best trades they didn't
make was moving him at the deadline.

I listen to the opposing team's announcers every game on league pass (can't understand Carr). All of them talk up Sexton.

It's understandable for players not to get hype or respect around the league until they play for a winning team. But Sexton has definitely established himself as a player, and a good building block for a rebuilding franchise that desperately needs good building blocks.

One of the most enjoyable things about Sexton's game is that the moment is never too big for him. He never gets nervous or intimidated no matter who he is going up against, and no matter how pressure-filled is the particular game situation. If anything, his focus and intensity just ratchets up.
He is completely unflappable.

That may have been part of the problem some of the vets had with him. They expected him to get down or depressed if he screwed up, but he didn't. And it wasn't that he didn't care. He just has the mental makeup of a great relief pitcher - the only thing that matters is the next pitch, not the last one.

He really should be more popular than he is.

I think people are getting lost in the advanced statistics. They say he is bad. It just isn't the best way to evaluate a young player that is developing so rapidly.

Don't get me wrong, Collin has holes in his game. He is just working systematically to eliminate them, and I have a hard time saying he won't continue to improve at the things he is not great at.

He wasn't playing a team game at the beginning of the year, and people were portraying that as selfishness or not having a feel for the game. It wasn't that. He wants to pass the ball and make plays, but wasn't making the right reads. That aspect of the game hadn't slowed down while the scoring one did. He made some great reads last night and some good passes. That cross court pass to Love was something he just couldn't do before.

That's the thing, we are seeing things that he couldn't do before in every game. 9 assists in the Miami game. His development is weird because it's like he is just stacking blocks and incrementally building and NBA game. Slowly, consistently getting better while no one notices.

Great article
I said it here a month or two ago. Kid is going to be an all star. He has the drive and ethic to improve what he has too. Scoring is there now, speed is elite. Court vision is improving. Game looks slower for him now. Defense will get there we have one of a future big three imo

Great article

About time someone jumped on Sexton’s stats Post-Clarkson TM from the media.

Been pumping those numbers in S34 for months. Dude has been unreal for nearly half of a season, scoring wise. 2nd year guards putting up 22+ a night on nearly a 58% TS% over 30+ games don’t grow on trees.

Actually his advanced stats are getting better. After last night`s game he has a positive VORP for the first time in his career.

Garland is last in the NBA with a -1.7 which where Seaton was most of last year.

Sure, it will inch up as time goes on, but it's like starting the semester with 2 f's and acing the tests later. Those F really drag the average down and people say you are a C student. People often say that "since the clarkson trade" or "last 10 games" are cherry picked stats. I just don't agree with using whole year numbers on a guy who improves mid-season. We have seen Sexton do this both years.

It's fine and he has plenty left to prove, but meanwhile while people are saying he can't pass, he has fundamentally changed the nature of his game, and is using his gravity to find the open man. A lot people get locked into a perception on a player. Sexton is also weird because he has continued to prove haters wrong, and still has no credibility.

I want to see a more consistent defensive effort like last night.

I have really come around on Sexton, his ceiling is all star guard for sure. And while i am a bit disappointed in Garland, I think KPJ has the highest ceiling of the young guards. I say this because of his size, athletic ability, court vision and shooting, if KPJ puts it together he will be an absolute beast. That said, he also has the lowest floor as he can be a bit of a head case and we don't know if he has a Sexton like work ethic to get the most out of his talent.

Just a reminder, just because you think one has a higher ceiling is not an insult to the other. We are starting to get ourselves some assets and just need some tall wing players and young shooting bigs besides Nance to build the beginnings of a team.

Just want to say Porter is said to have a very good work ethic. Enough that everyone is surprised he had such a bad character report
