When the offense breaks down and the shot clock is expiring they get the ball to Sexton because he's the most likely to either score or draw a foul. Compared to other "combo" guards in the NBA he ranks in the 73rd percentile in points per shot attempt. He's in the 52nd percentile in eFG%, but that doesn't factor in the times he gets fouled and the free throws he makes. Getting fouled and making both free throws is just as valuable as making the shot, but it doesn't get counted in your eFG%, so points per shot attempt is a better indicator.

For example, Joel Embiid ranks in the 45th percentile among bigs in eFG% but because he draws so many fouls he ranks in the 83rd percentile in PSA. I'm pretty sure no one would argue that Embiid doesn't "score at a high enough rate on those shots to positively impact the game".

TS% accounts for that and Sexton’s is a right in league average.

He can be better, I know he can.

i think that's the thing, sexton is impressive already but he can be better in picking his spots and in scoring in bunches at points in the game to bend the defense to his will. great scoring players do that (kobe, mj), wherein they don't touch the ball for a few possessions but then score timely buckets to cut an opponent's momentum. sexton can score, but once he figures out the right timing to put a dagger on opposing teams, he will be a weapon.

Sexton talking shit to vets tonight and it doesn't feel phony at all. having 10,000 hours of mastery at the ripe age of 22.2 earns that sort of confidence.

One thing that kinda doesn't show up in the boxscore.

He is the guy who takes almost all of the "The Shot Clock Is Running Down and Someone Has To Get Shot Up" shots. You don't see him, generally, panic pass to someone else. And it's not always him who is the reason the clock is running low.

Sexton always been a trash talker but he toned it down once he entered the league....This is the same Collin Sexton that told Anferee Hardaway(was the opposing coach)that his son(I'm going to assume, who was guarding him)was trashed while going to the free throw line in high school.....lol

Hell,he was going back and fourth with Nets players, who were on the bench in the first Nets game.

Damn I didn't know Sexton talks shit on the court. For some reason I thought he was so focus he's one of them mute dudes on the court.

Collin can talk all the shit he wants if he backs it up like he did tonight.

For those that want to trade him, one question:

How do you think he’ll react to the Cavaliers trading him?

He‘s apt to go for 40 if we ever pissed him off.

I love his attitude. Cleveland puts up with way too much shit, it’s time we dished it out.

Sexton isn’t tradeable. He’s the team’s only consistent scorer (and he’s very very good in this regard), he’s on a rookie deal, he doesn’t hate Cleveland (AFAIK). The chance of the Cavs getting equal value in return is basically nil. As teams don’t trade great scoring wings on rookie deals for anything. And that’s what we’d have to get in return. An SF scoring nearly 20 on great efficiency at the rim, mid range, and from deep. That’s the bar.

Sexton’s only sin is the team drafted another diminutive guard right after him, then a SG who can’t shoot or dribble. That’s a mess, and I don’t know the best way out of it. If we plan on actually winning playoff games one day.

for now, I look forward to him continuing to grow as a scorer and hopefully score 25+ next season.

I don't get hyped by games like tonight against a poor team. If the Cavs get Green, Colin should be moved.
