Damn, Jimmy G this is some serious good quarterbacking.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Because he hasn't earned that value.

I referenced the Matt Schaub trade as a benchmark earlier, since Schaub looks like the best parallel we have (25 year old backup, limited game experience, similar draft position) and ran the numbers through the Chase Stuart draft value calculator. Atlanta received a draft value somewhere in the neighborhood of 19.5 for Schaub, which equates to... the 11th overall pick.

So unless you believe Schaub had substantially more value at the time then it seems NFL teams have been willing to pay a price of roughly the 12th overall for a player similar to Jimmy G.

That was some time ago, so maybe there's some reason that this situation is considerably different. But at a glance it seems like a good reference point.

I'm not saying he has. I'm saying the logic is flawed when you say Garoppolo isn't worth the #12 pick because he is unproven but prospect x is worth it.
Phillis did u read my post?
I sum up the difference.

Wasn't the Matt Shaun deal under the old CBA when draft picks made a lot more money? If so it's still not the same.

Based on...?

Observation

I mean obviously Cleveland is targeting him and have been rejected so far if he didn't merit such demand he'd she been traded. There's no way he doesn't get traded just get value now before next year.

Prime 1978 has given up on proofreading.

Much love to the old school guys still reading and posting, though! I've enjoyed Prime's posts for about a decade.

My post are that bad grammatically?
Ouch.
But u are right. On my phone, I just click post reply.

I get the financial commitment but really you are looking at a 2 year guaranteed deal with years 3-6 probably non-gtd resulting in the team getting out of the deal easily. We have 100 million in salary cap space, if we were close to the line I would agree with you. Since we aren't, the financial impact is not significantly impactful.

Except the latest is the Browns have not even contacted the Patriots.

Try again.

The latest according to...whom?

I don't believe there is any truly reliable source for that.

Ok. So let's just assume everything Grossi reports is false, despite there being zero reason for him to lie about this seeing as he is Jimmy G's number one fan.

So who has reported that they have spoken? Who is reporting that the Browns have been rejected by the Patriots? Who has even reported the guy is available?

Nobody. So for the resident Patriots fan to be acting like all of that has occurred is kind of a leap of faith, no?

No, it's not necessary to assume that everything he reports is false. But this particular rumor cannot possibly be based on his personal knowledge. It's not something he could have witnessed -- it is completely dependent on what others have told him. It requires that someone high up within the organization, decided to be honest with a guy whom the organization dislikes, and spills the beans to Grossi on a major rumor. Why?

I'm not saying Grossi is deliberately lying and just made it up. I just think it far more likely that some relatively low level person made an off the cuff comment, or someone hire up just said it to mess with him. And Grossi reported it. That seems far more plausible that Grossi getting this huge scoop from a team that has basically shut him out.

Additionally, the rumor itself is pretty unbelievable. The Browns, who are desperate to find The Answer at QB, never once make even a casual inquiry to the Patriots about Garrapolo?? I'm not claiming that we're hot after the guy, or desperately trying to negotiation some kind of trade. But to say that we've never spoken to them even once....Nah, I'm not buying that based just on Grossi's say-so.

Value is given what a team is then willing to trade for a certain player/pick. You can say a lot of players, ones that never even played in the NFL haven't earned the value of what they were trade for. That has nothing to do with it.

But if you want the player, and that team won't bend, you either meet its match, or move on.

There's a long list of players that weren't worth what they were traded for.

Was Jay Cutler worth two first round picks, and a third? At the time? With a passer rating in the high 80s (not that impressive in today's era) and turning the ball over 18 times a season?

What did he do that was so good to warrant such a lofty trade? Not much if you ask me, but that's what Denver was only willing to part with him.

If New England has no true desire to get rid of Jimmy, which they don't really. They aren't going to give him away for a penny on the dollar. And I don't really blame them. I don't care how great Brady is, he's still 40 this coming season. And we've seen too many times the all-time greats that seem invincible hit that wall and never come back from it.

If I were the Pats, I'd hold a kings ransom if I'm trading him too.

Worthwhile noting that the Pats really have an enormous advantage over the rest of the league when it comes to deciding what is fair value for Garrapolo. Because he doesn't have a large body of game-work that other teams can observe, the Pats are going to have a much better idea of his abilities than do other teams. They're the ones who know what he is like in the film room, during practice, etc..

Easy to get screwed when you're bargaining with someone with much better knowledge of whatever it is you're bargaining for..

That was the least important part of my post, in all honesty.
