His passing is leveling up before our eyes. This is what guys saw in practice.

That pass Lauri missed was wow. Eye opening.

Hard to see why Darius can't be one of the better passers. Likely won't get to Trae Young level, but he is already up there on assist leaderboards.

Sounds like a guy who would contribute very little honestly because you just described what should be Dylan Windler on this team.

(To be clear, not knocking your suggestion but rather critiquing our ability to extract this kind of skillet from our players...if Guy can do what Windler should be doing then I'm all for it)
“Critiquing our ability to extract this kind of skill set from our players …”

JBB appears to have no trouble this year extracting skill sets from Allen, Garland, Mobley, Markkanen, Love, Rubio, Osman, Okoro to an extent (erratic but still young) and even The Real D Wade and Stevens have grown from UDFA and two way players. They are also playing well as a team on both ends of the floor.

But JBB is still the reason why Divine Windler has not progressed? Maybe, just maybe, Windler is the issue, not JBB.

Almost everything we wanted to see Garland improve on he’s taken noticeable steps forward in. His playmaking has been great, he’s moving off the ball and setting screens in the lane a lot, he’s definitely gotten better defensively, he’s been more aggressive looking for his 3P shot, and while he still has room to grow in this one, he’s been more physical finishing inside as well. He just has to chill with the turnovers now! It feels like they usually start around the 3rd quarter when we have a sizable lead and they’re almost always the live ball kind that lead to transition baskets.

It was mildly concerning that he got "shut down" during that stretch in the fourth when Sacramento went on their 19-2 run or whatever it was. He seemed to play more tentative and wasn't able to impose his will like he did the rest of the game, be it scoring or dishing. From the start of the fourth until Ricky's daggers he only had two points and no assists over a ~10 minute span.

I'm so close to anointing him as The Next Big Thing but he still needs to prove, IMO, that when the going gets tough he can still orchestrate the offense and break down the defense.

No joke, pass first Darius reminds me so much of Steve Nash….
it has been noted.

and v Bucks too. Cavs need a guy who can facilitate the offense next to DG, which will eventually be Mobley in the high post or possibly facing up. A 6th man scorer would help (healthy Collin in that role could be perfect).

Some of it was legs.. Cavs were clearly gassed and Gentry went full bench crew, but Davion Mitchell is no joke defensively. That dude gets after it and doesn't go for the BS.

Yeah that one possession where Davion forced Darius into the turnover was legit. I was oddly disappointed he didn't keep that intensity up in subsequent possessions to push Garland, he needs to be tested more like that. He should have the handles to easily dispel the defensive intensity.

You referring to this possession?

Mitchell is a phenomenal defender. Probably one of the best in the NBA already and he’s just a rookie.
Last night was as impressive of a defensive performance I've seen from a rookie guard in the last decade. Mitchell is the real deal. This draft legitimately could have three future first team all defensive guys in Mobley, Barnes, and Mitchell (we'll see on Suggs too who has been very underwhelming thus far, but considered an elite defensive guard prospect).
