Thanks for sharing that interview.

I'm getting vibes from him that something is off right now, and he isn't as happy as he once was.

"I've been going through stuff."
[reporter later asks to elaborate]
"Sickness. Slumps. Stuff."

He doesn't want to talk about what this "stuff" is.

There was also talk at the end about when JBB took him out.

Elsewhere, he says the "correct" things -- insists the team is all about their roles, that they don't keep track of stats, etc. -- but I'm thinking based on his other vague, unenthusiastic, and noncommittal answers and body language, that something is bothering him that he clearly doesn't want to discuss. I just hope there isn't an internal team rift they're trying to cover up, especially between him and Donovan. Cavs are obviously going to need both guys to be on the same page for the long haul this season.
I think you're way off on all of this. "Stuff" includes his eye still not being 100% which a reporter had to pry out of him. I think he doesn't like losing and his tone reflected only that. not some underlying rift.

I think you guys are trying to read to much into that interview, he is clearly not happy with losing. He just wants to be healthy and between the eye and actually being sick he isn't there yet. He still flashes that infectious smile, in a post game interview he had every right to be upset about.
Talk some sense into these people. They all want to see a rift because they predicted it when we brought DM here. They want a soap opera. Basketball must be too boring without some drama.

Do they have things they need to figure out on the court? Hell yes. How many games have they had to do so where both guys were healthy? How hard is it to figure out how to mesh against world class NBA competition?

Chill out, please.

I'm someone who was skeptical from the start about having two ball-dominant guys in the backcourt, but this is way too soon to make any judgement.

Maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t think there is a rift at all? They constantly tweet each other and Instagram shout out each other.

I heard Garland's voice on the post game, and he's been pretty sick. He's completely congested. I don't know what is like for an NBA athlete, but my guess is it affected his poor shooting.

I'm really not that worried. Before the road trip, I thought the cavs did a great job learning the other team in the first half and then putting the screws to them the second. What we saw on the West Coast was more free lancing and less running their sets.

Part of it has been good defense from teams too. Teams are scouting the Cavs and trying to run on them and it is working.

They've already had some really good moments too. Barely played together

Oh come on buzzdog, you know me well enough as a poster that I don't want to see a rift. That's easily the most ridiculous thing you've ever posted on RCF, and I'm surprised I'm seeing it from the likes of you -- you're more sensible than that.

I'm hoping it's nothing major with DG, that the "stuff" might just be something in DG's personal life that may have nothing to do with basketball...could be a sick family member for all I know, something temporary.

Remember, I'm from Springfield MO, where DG's dad played basketball, and I grew up in middle TN near Vanderbilt where DG played college ball. I want him to stay around as much as anyone here and to get along well with Donovan because I remember how frustrating it was at the end of last season when DG had to carry too much of the load.

So let's stop with the bullshit accusations.

Wasn't sure if this or the pace thread was the best place to drop this. One thing I have noticed with Garland, going back to even his rookie year, is he really likes to play the game manager role when he is the primary ball handler. You see guys like Bron, Luka, and CP3 do this a lot too. They walk the ball up slowly, survey the D, find the best position to create a shot or pass and then take that action, which takes up half the shot clock. CP3 in particular has been like this even since his NO days when he was super fast.

I know that JBB has not emphasized a fast offense at any point, but unless we get a D'Antoni type offensive system in place, I think we will have to get used to a slower paced attack when Garland is initiating. I wish we ran more because we have the personnel for it with Okoro, Mitch and Stevens on the wings, Cedi in between, and Love/Wade as outlet passers and trailers. This would be a really good way to add some more offensive pressure, especially because our transition efficiency is really high but not that frequent a feature in the offense.

I warned of this after the deal was made. Garland's ego was bruised. It turns into my turn, your turn. While this is going on,Mobley is playing like a dog who crapped right in the middle of the floor, then runs off to hide.

LM's all star like season isn't helping. My guess Garland is pissed.
Mitchell is more advanced and the team went off when DG was hurt. DG comes back and they lose 4 in a row.
I’m hoping DG isn’t this fragile. He’s not receiving significant, if any really, negative press.
Im
Hoping stuff involves some broad.

With sexton or cedi in the backcourt I would want to hold onto the ball to prevent a bad shot but with Mitchell he needs to give it up early so he can get it back later in the shot clock

I was talking more about 'Dom. You know, the person here with superior emotional intelligence.

As for your comment, you did raise the specter of a rift, and the team covering it up. You said you hoped it wasn't what was happening. Why even go there without actual evidence beyond body language and some fans imagining a high five snub? The same people who raised the specter of personality and ego problems as soon as the trade was announced.

I just don't get why some people want to go there on the thinnest evidence, and I honestly think some fans crave drama. I don't put you on that boat. But it's easy to get sucked in when others are churning it.

DG and DM are going to be better than fine together. But they won't mesh overnight, it will take months. In the meantime I wouldn't be focusing on the egos or whatever, they'll figure it out because they both want to win and they both respect one another's talent.

Garland is taking another leap a leap I thought he didn’t have tbh
I just can't believe how much the hornets dropped in their coverage the first half he was literally standing unguarded at 10 feet from the rim a number of times
