Yeah, I should have added the qualifier "not related to injuries." Was there ever a first time all star 23 year old big who didn't suffer a major injury who never again made it to the all star game again?

Well the age qualifier makes it hard because you know that 20 years ago and beyond players weren't leaving college nearly as much early as they are now. So 23 year olds used to be NBA rookies.

But Bam Adebayo made it a couple of seasons ago and hasn't made it since.

Juwan Howard, Andre Kirilenko are some others who were in their young 20s when they made it and didn't make it again.

Brook Lopez only made it once a long time ago, and that's probably the tier of big I'd put Allen in. Brook Lopez tier.

I'd like to see garland coach or mentored by Steve Nash, IMO their game is similar, and I think thank would take garland to the next level. It's like he still needs to learn how to control the pace of the game. I don't think he can get that under JBB.

Here's a video of nash:

I'd like to see Garland, Love, and Wade all healthy. When two of the four shooters on your roster have injuries to their shooting hands, and a third misses half the season, you're going to go through some things.

yeah, I agree, these injuries just keep nagging the team.

I think Brook Lopez was 24 when he made his one all star game.

DeAndre Jordan was 28, so doesnnt fit the narative

Cedric Cebollos made on at the age of 25,

Derick Coleman made 1 at 26

AC Green was 26

Tyrone Hill was 26

Kenyon martin 26

McDyess was 26

Porzingus was 22, has not made one since

Smits was 25 when he made his only, i recently ran into him at my Thai place, if i see him again, will have to let him know he is a example I used, lol

That is what i could find in a short list. The thing is, Brook made only one, Cebellos, Smits, all 25 and younger, (Porzingus career not over, injury was a factor)....but all the above players I would say are sstill very good players although they made only one all star game.

If we have a big 4, Allen is probably the 4th best of the 4, but thats still pretty good.

I think it's going to be a lot harder for centers to make all star teams as center is no longer its own position on the ballot. That doesn't mean the coach won't pick one though.

The thing on this is: if you're a teams 4th best player, it's real hard to actually make all-star games at that point. Happens once in a blue moon due to injuries maybe on your own squad.

Either way, it's fine, he's not paid like an all-star and produces at about an average starter level on offense for his position and top 10 player at his position on defense. Maybe top 5.

Agree with all this. Allen doesn't need to be an all-star for him to be a valuable contributor for us. He is a top 50 player in the league, probably top 8-10ish center, and one of the better defensive ones. And in terms of switchability, he is cleanly a top 5 guy which is why our defense works so well. He is on a super valuable contract and should not be casually dumped for a garbage wing like some of the posters here (you know who you are) want

He needs to cut out these momentum killing turnovers. There was period last night when the Cavs were starting to pull away and Garland got really sloppy and was over dribbling, game shifted from then.
I love me some Darius Garland. He has an amazing handle and he can get anywhere he wants to go on the floor with his dribble. But he needs to learn when and when not to pick his spots.

I'm fine with him trying to split triple teams or whatever during the course of a game when teams are just going up and down and trading baskets. But it's just been a few too many times when Darius tried to be a hero with his dribble at a critical point of a game, where all he needed to do was make a simple or even an obvious pass. But he instead tries to dribble his way through multiple defenders only to dribble it off his own knee or foot, killing our momentum, giving the opponent a breath of life.

Sometimes attacking the way Darius can attack is a great thing. But not in every situation. Sometimes our team is too passive at attacking and deferring even when they have a decent look at the rim and Garland needs to take over in those situations. But he needs to learn better judgement on when the time is right, and when to keep the ball moving.

Can we stop with the "we have 3 all-stars" thing. Jarrett Allen will probably never make an all-star game again. Mo Williams was technically an all-star too.

Well he made last years allstar team, so yes he’s an allstar plus one of the best defenders in the league

They gave him something at halftime. He looked like he could barely grip the ball in the 1st half. Looked like Hunter Thompson in the second half.

We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert...
