So you already know that our 19 year old rookie and 20 year first round pick from last year will never be able to be good pnr bh's and will never be able to come close to VanVleets /Lowry's defense and switching ability...

Garland will be elite.

Sexton, don't see it because of his passing.

Defensively both of them are just not very physical in the post. Between Sexton and Garland, Sexton probably has a higher chance of becoming passable as switch defender in the post for a pointguard, but most likely will be negative in that regard and not be effective in a switching scheme.

Just personally, as far as team construction I want to be able to hide my PG on a SG on some nights and my SG to be able to switch, be athletic, long, capable defender. Or an elite shooter on the move, coming off screens. I don't see Collin becoming a great off screen shooter; more like off the dribble, catch and shoot will be his forte.

You were confused. Never mind.

I'll just say that it hurts me to see SGA become a star when I had him as by far the best prospect @ our range and above player picked way ahead of him like Bagley, Ayton.

I wish Sexton became great, I do, but it sucks when it was obvious SGA was the better pick. And I don't care that he said that he only wanted to play for the Clippers. Here, he is playing for OKC and he looks damn happy. Him and Garland would have been crazy.

How much do you think Longabardi played in our guards defense last year? Looking now, Sexton/Clarkson/ and Knight were all in the bottom 10 worst def rating. They just all that bad?

Longabardi loved to switch, so that probably did not help our undersized guards and weak switching bigs. But, other than Nwaba and maybe Cedi, all of our guards were also naturally bad defenders.

Clarkson and Knight were never good defenders, and Sexton just by the eye test is not good regardless of team D concepts and scheme.

I think Larry Drew didn't help Sexton in terms of helping him become a better passer. For a PG without great vision, Sexton should have been running alot of set plays and building up a playbook for him. Maybe Beilein will recognize that and help him build up his assist numbers by just finding bread and butter plays that he can run and build on.

It's something I think Byron Scott did with Kyrie where those certain plays were used pretty much the whole time Kyrie was here. It became part of the teams system, if Kyrie, LeBron, or Delly could run a play well it seem to be picked up by the other ball handlers.

Garland is light years ahead of Sexton in terms of feel for the game, talent, etc.

I’m really really intrigued by Garland. He’s got an IT factor that is undeniable.

I think they have had very different developmental paths. Garland's dad was in the NBA for 7 seasons. He has been around high level coaching his whole life and just knows how to play right. Sexton was basically the opposite. He was pretty much an unknown player in high school till his senior year and he went from unranked to the no. 9 recruit in a 5 month span.

Here is a good article about Sexton in high school

Yeah. That feel that's helped by being the son of an NBA player. A lot of them have that poise.

Garland is ahead, but Sexton is growing. His court vision is improving as is his defense. Sexton's work ethic will continue to pay off. Garland is another hard worker. This whole team seems to be very inclined to working hard and growing.

Don't really care where players are 'meant' to go, just want the cavs to pick the best player.. still think it will be Garland personally but gee its annoying seeing White do so well early
I personally really liked both pre-draft. I am fan of pg's that can shoot, its a pretty big concern for Morant who in my opinion is more suited to the previous era.
Why is it annoying to see someone succeed? I hope White becomes an all-pro. It’s irrelevant towards Garland’s performance.

If Windler or KpJ can take it away from Sexton then they should do it. Right now Sexton helps Darius more as a scoring option that needs to be accounted for. I also think Sexton will be better next year after learning from Beilein for awhile.

If he can't learn to make easy reads, he won't stay in the starting lineup.
Totally fine with having Sexton come off the bench, especially if we can get another bench guy to put up above average effort/impact. I think about the clippers and lou Williams/montrezl and their overall bench scoring. Sexton is obviously not at Lou Williams level...yet.

Got bullied by Brogdon a little bit tonight, especially down the stretch, he has got to get stronger. I have no doubt that he will but until he does he's going to be easy pickings. Shoe game seems to be always on point though, so that's a good sign lol. Can't wait to see more.

I think Sexton needs the spacing of Love and the good screens/picks that TT gives more than Garland to keep developing. I think that's why they are playing Garland with the second unit more than Sexton. I'm not sure Sexton and Nance will ever have good chemistry either.

I don't think they will get the most out of Sexton if they move him to come off the bench unless they revamp the second unit by quite a bit. I'm not sure how many drafts that will take especially if they move Love and TT anytime soon. No one currently on the roster can stretch the floor like Love from the 4 and no one is as good of a screener and setting picks as TT.

I think the better plan is just to start both of Garland and Sexton then staggering their minutes. Mixing and matching them with units that work for them best. Have them take up all the 48 PG minutes and play some together.
