That was a sick move. His handle is outstanding. He's figuring it out. Most excited for him to build on that assist game
Garland looks good and Sexton has been a consistent scorer despite his 3 not falling.
I'd like to see if they can grow together still. They looked deadly against Charlotte right now.
This team needs to fix some things, but our guards including Porter are the best young players on the team.
There were a couple small stretches where there were flashes of what Garland and Sexton could do together in tonight's game against OKC.
Sexton being able to knock down 3s helps them be able to play off each other rather than just taking turns as the PG.
How Darius only has 2 assists with 3:25 left in this game is a mystery. He's been moving the ball beautifully. So many hockey assists, making the right play ... he is really starting to get it, stats be damned.
One thing I will say is that he tends to speed up a little too much when searching for his own shot in the last half of the 4th quarter. But I like the kid. He will be a starting PG in this league. I'm confident.
His lack of vertical is what limits him currently. His layup package or lack thereof limits his PnR play right now. That's the main thing.
Yep.His lack of vertical is what limits him currently. His layup package or lack thereof limits his PnR play right now. That's the main thing.
Yep.
Also, while he is not a good defender by any means, I am surprised at how "not awful" he is on that end. He is really good at staying with his man as an on-ball defender. He is physical but does not overplay. The big problem on that end is size, strength, and that he is still somewhat unaware off-ball. But I actually do believe he can become an "average-to-slightly-below-average" guard defender in the NBA.
The only other thing I would say is that, while Garland is a willing passer, his vision is not that great. He will need to get better on pick-and-rolls and scoring in the paint to mitigate the lack of vision. But I am not worried about him... I am sure he will be a starting guard for a long time.Defense is not an issue for him. He just lacks strength, and still, he does not look like a poor defender to me...sometimes he even looks good. Mainly going around screens particularly on the ball and sliding his feet. Maybe he is just slightly below average now.
He’s been so much better lately than he was to start the season. He clearly works best with KPJ in place of Sexton and with Henson on the floor to mask some of his defensive shortcomings. Hopefully if we end up trading love we get people who can actually shoot to replace him like Simons or Bridges because he deserves better spacing than the Cavs have given him.
