Wade was a projected late first/early second until he broke his foot his junior year. Then he broke it again as a senior. So he was a risk most teams weren't willing to take. Koby taking a flyer on him turned out to be a smart gamble - If he didn't recover, all you'd wasted was a 2-way. If he healed, you basically got a free draft pick.
i swear koby could've been a good real estate flipper. he has eye for depressed assets, buys low, rehabilitates them, and then boom, above market value.

He was in real estate before basketball apparently

Cavs essentially found 1st round pick production from an undrafted guy in the 2019 draft, a draft where they actually ended up with 3 1st round picks (Garland, Windler, Porter Jr).

Between all the drafted and undrafted guys in 2019 Dean ranks:

13th in 3P%
T-16th in BPM
T-18th in VORP
24th in Win Shares

He's even approaching the top 30 in total points scored, currently 38th.

Between him and Lamar, where the fuck has this player development been for the last 20 years. Credit to Koby and the coaching staff and player development staff.

Honestly you cant leave off Garland when talking about development. Allen got better in the offseason too. I dont think they get to take credit for Mobley yet though, they were just not stupid enough to not take him when he fell to them at #3, lol

Then, there's Pangos.

Definitely a Koby swing and miss. He hasnt missed on anything big yet that I can tell. Kyrie was a more pain in the ass than we realize. Drummond wasnt huge assets, KPJ was a late 1st almost 2nd round pick. Pangos was a min free agent.

But Allen was a home run, Mobley was a home run, even if the catcher told him it was a fast ball, he still had to swing. Garland a homerun, Okoro atleast a single. Marky is a single. I know this is the Wade thread, but so far 2 UFA became useful players Lamar and Wade. Both are rotational, but both have started because of injuries for a team that is 30-19 and have helped in those 30 wins. 3rd year players who went undrafted starting for a playoff team...2 of them.

If Wade isnt an example of why Koby should be considered exec of the year, I dont know what is. Mobley 3rd overall is what he is getting credit for, but a blind man could see that one.

Nah. His coach said that Dean Wade was "prime Kevin Love plus defense." Happy to gravedig if there's doubt, but I remember that quote specifically.

When I think about that post....frankly, I can see that from where he was sitting. Maybe replace the word prime with fat.

Then, there's Pangos.
I still don't believe Pangos was supposed to play at all this season. His contract was probably a part of some behind-the-scenes equation that we just don't know about. Favor to an agent or something.

Pangos was a 12th man who suddenly found himself as the 8th man for a while. Every team has a few of these guys inhabiting the end of the bench. You just don't usually see them.

He's on a pretty spendy contract that's proving to be hard to move for it to be some kind of a favor to an agent. I just think Koby fucked up on this one. Who would have guessed we'd lose Sexton and Rubio and end up needing more actual playable depth at the guard spot? And that's okay, nobody bats a thousand and he's smart enough to learn from mistakes.

He was good in the loss to the Pistons, but awful tonight: 0 points and 1 rebound as a starter in 19 minutes. I don't understand why he's the one Cavalier immune to criticism here. Windler, Okoro, Cedi get lots of it...people will even complain about JA and Mobley not rebounding, but Wade gets a free pass. I don't get it.

Undrafted rookie we dont expect anything out of. He is found money when he contributes.
