Denzel Ward

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think Chubb was a slightly better prospect than Ward, but they were close enough that the overwhelming need for a CB1 made it a worthy pick.

Could they have possibly gotten him later? Maybe. But no one picking 5-10 wanted to move UP. I wouldn't have risked dropping down to 12 or 15 and having him not be there.

I agree with Grossi. We got terrible value at 1 and 4. They might be great players but where they were picked was not good. We could of gotten Ward at 8th and the latest 10th.
We could of gotten Mayfield at 4. You can say you can't always be cute and trade down but great teams do it. Baltimore did it all day today and then traded back up to get their QB. Baltimore got double their money back today while we paid double.

This is easy to say, but it takes two to tango on a trade. No one picking 5th through 11th wanted to trade up, they all wanted to stay put or move back.

Plus? We don't know what OUR board was. It's "bad value" if you're judging it off of Mel Kiper's board.

But to us, if our board is Baker/Barkley/Ward? Is it actually?

I've been saying the same thing, I feel like Ward could have been gotten a few picks later but in the end I'm not too worried about the value. Ward is an outstanding prospect and we are lucky to have him (Thanks Texans!).

As far as the 2 picks, I was surprised at both of them. They were not the picks I would have made had I been in charge but I don't dislike the prospects. Mayfield I always thought could be a really good QB. Ward was probably my 2nd target at #4 behind Chubb. We will now see how Denver does with Von Miller and Chubb. :-(

I liked Dorsey's low key troll game. He takes the controversial QB with the first overall pick, but then picks an OSU player fourth so ya'll can't bitch too much. :chuckle:

Grossi is Grossi but this fees like Manziel and Gilbert all over again

It shouldn't, other than positionally.

This front office, or "regime", met several times with both Mayfield and Ward. Juxtaposed from there is Ray Farmer, who didn't make the pro-days of either Manziel or Gilbert and didn't know much about either when he chose them.

Raiders took a 3rd and 5th for the 10th pick. So saying we couldn't get in til the 12th is BS. Broncos were taking Nelson if Chubb wasn't there, everyone knew the colts were taking Smith if Nelson wasn't there. The argument is what was Chicago and SF doing if Ward is available. I think they draft him but I think Chicago would talk trade(they only have 1 pick on day 2) if Smith wasn't there cause they could get Edmund later.
Yes, the Raiders traded DOWN FROM the 10th pick, they didn't trade UP TO the 10th pick.

There was also a tweet the Broncos were taking Chubb or Ward.

I wouldnt use the Raiders as an example. They drafted an OT that needs, at minimum, 3 years of development before he sees the field.

Both were arguably reaches. Confucius says "you reach, they teach".

I would have preferred Chubb here, but Ward was my second choice with this pick. The only real glaring hole on the roster was at corner, and we just got the best one in the draft. Hard to be upset.

Once Baker was off the board, no one needed to trade up.

Who picking 5 through 11 wanted to move up regardless of how the top 3 picks went? The Jets were picking Darnold or Mayfield, whoever the Browns didn't take at 1. The Giants were always taking Barkley.

The Broncos wanted to move back and only stayed put because Chubb unexpectedly fell. The Colts weren't moving up. The Bucs moved back. The Bears weren't moving up. The 49ers weren't moving up. The Raiders moved back.

This isn't in reference to you specifically, but it annoys me when a lot of fans throw around "trade down!" because they don't perceive value to be there. But they never think of with who? and for what?

The only teams that moved up were picking 12 and 15. Could the Browns have gotten Ward at 12? Possibly, but they obviously didn't want to risk it.

Ward is a great pick. They looked down the barrel, stuck to their board, and took the BPA who also filled a massive void.

Chubb is a good player. However, we are the Browns—meaning that we will very likely be drafting in the top 7-10 picks again next year.

That’s the draft to take a DE high. There may be 3 better edge rushers in 2019 than Chubb was graded at in this one.
