Denzel Ward

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Ward is a great pick. They looked down the barrel, stuck to their board, and took the BPA who also filled a massive void.

Chubb is a good player. However, we are the Browns—meaning that we will very likely be drafting in the top 7-10 picks again next year.

That’s the draft to take a DE high. There may be 3 better edge rushers in 2019 than Chubb was graded at in this one.

I don't disagree about edge rushers -- just want to point out that Chubb was also very good at setting the edge against the run as well. That can really help out the defense.

I don’t really believe in reaches anymore. I used to, but after seeing enough drafts I think the concept is pretty dumb

Half the guys in the top 10 this year will likely bust. If Ward isn’t one of them was he a reach? Seriously we have extended 4 of 24 first round picks to a second contract and guys are worried about whether it might have been a few picks too early?

Don’t give a shit. In 5 years will that pick be a Cleveland Brown producing at a high level. That’s all I care about. Not winning draft night by lining up our picks to the media’s big boards

A team that is 1-31 doesn’t have the luxury of trading back and hoping their guy is still going to be there. Draft the guy you want if he’s available.

This is also coming from someone who wanted Chubb (if they could pick from any of Ward/Chubb/Minkah), but I am thrilled with the Ward pick. They filled a much more glaring need and the odds are good that they’re going to be drafting top ten next year anyway; they can pick up a stud DE then.

Also... if the guy you picked the guy you wanted 3-4 picks before he was "supposed" to go, that isn't a reach anyway.

Seriously, people who complain about drafting someone a few picks too early are just the worst.

I mean, its been said that Denver was taking Ward if we took Chubb.

There's no way in hell Ward would have been available at 12 had we traded down. Neither would have Roquan, or Minkah, or any of the other elite prospects.

So...did we really reach?

Ward was WIDELY connected to Denver.

He was certainly no lock to be there in a trade down, and any thought to the contrary is not backed up by facts.

Denzel Ward is worthy of the 4th pick. Period.

I don't care where some writer had him in a mock draft, he took a Top 30 there and did a few interviews with Denver pre-draft. He was a guy they liked alot.

And to think he got ejected for targeting for that literally flawless tackle...not to mention robbed of a forced fumble, fumble recovery, and touchdown.

So excited that shitass rule is in the NFL now!

Look what Jacksonville built with defensive line talent and two shut-down corners. When Denver won a Super Bowl, they had the same formula: two edge rushers, linebackers who can blitz and drop into coverage, and two shut-down corners. Carrie, Gaines, Ward and BBC are a deep group with a lot of talent. I'm feeling really good, hoping they grab a backup FS later in the draft to push the guy we got for Kizer.

Schefter reported that the Broncos had a deal in place with the Bills - 5 for 12, 22, 53 and they backed out once Chubb ended up at 5.

Say the Browns take that exact deal and drop to 12...

4. BUF Allen
5. DEN Chubb
6. IND Nelson
7. TB - probably where Ward goes with no trade down
8. CHI - Smith
9. SF - McGlinchey
10. ARZ -Rosen
11. MIA - Fitzpatrick

Then what? Browns would be staring at Derwin James probably? Marcus Davenport?

Grossi is Grossi but this fees like Manziel and Gilbert all over again

Feels like Tim Couch and Joe Hayden in the same draft.

Ward turns into a pro bowl level CB, but Baker turns out to be ok but not great. I think Baker can be a playoff qb, but i dont see super bowl level, atleast not on his own. Need an incredible to win SB with Baker.

But that is just me. Felt Darnold and Rosen had chance to be that top 5 qb, baker maybe top 10 if everything works out.

Thank you,

Stat from 2 years ago.

51% of picks 1-15 work out to be solid starters or better
49% of picks 16-32 work out to be solid starters or better

Its about picking guys you think will succeed. Ths trying to outsmart shit by dropping down to get your guy is stupid. If there take your guy. The reason to move back is because a team is willing to way over pay for your draft pick, not to hope your guy is still on the board.

After watching the presser Denzel seems to still be pissed at Baker based off his body language. Or maybe that's just the kind of guy he is. Haven't watched many interviews of him
