Deshaun Watson: Third Highest Paid QB in the AFC North (OUT for 2023)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Russell Wilson and Lamar Jackson should be green. There's absolutely no way that Justin Herbert should be green if they aren't also.

Kirk Cousins should be yellow. Mac Jones, Hurts, and Lawrence should all be purple.

I used different grouping titles than others might use.

Do you really think Kirk Cousins is "Middle of the road with upside?"

It's ironic you mention Lance and Fields because both are in tremendously different situations.

Lance has a great offensive coach, two amazing weapons in Kittle and Samuel, the best LT in football, and a very solid run game. Everything is there for him to succeed

Fields on the other hand. Struggled tremendously last season, first time head coach (defensive background, FWIW), and the Bears did next to nothing in the offseason to improve his already weak supporting cast. Feel like his success will really live or die with his new offensive coordinator, Luke Getsy, who spent the last 3 seasons with Aaron Rodgers.

Oh, I absolutely agree Lance is in a position to succeed while Fields is behind the eight ball because Bears. An argument can be made the Bears haven't had a passing game above league average since the 1940s. That's crazy.

I also believe they have the same hurdle: Slower with the processing and "feel" due to inexperience and youth. For some QBs, the game eventually slows down. For others like Darnold, they are just capped by the mental part of the game.

I like both players to approach what Kyler Murray did last year in 2022. Lance seems like the more sure bet with his cannon arm, but Fields has a lot of positives as well.

I hate to say it, but Burrow should be much better this year than last year. Even if he improves marginally as an individual, his offensive line jumped from below average to a top five squad.

Quarterback tiers:

Top: Mahomes, Rodgers, Allen, Brady - these guys run the league.

Franchise Guys: Herbert, Burrow, Stafford, Watson (off-field stuff kills him) Nobody will talk about their jobs in jeopardy even after a bad year.

Solid starters: D. Carr, Prescott, R. Wilson, L. Jackson - There is enough reason for concern to separate them from the Franchise title.

Middle of the road starters with upside: K. Murray, Mac Jones, Hurts, Lawrence - Others below them might hold them off, but they are young enough to have a higher ceiling.

Middle of nowhere starters: Cousins, Ryan, Tannehill, Jimmy G., Goff, Wentz - more likely to bottom out than rise up.

Young with pressure: Mayfield, Fields, T. Lance, Tagovailoa, Z. Wilson, D. Mills, D. Jones - my money is on Lance and Fields to separate and rise

Carr needs to be grouped with Middle of nowhere starters

Wilson and Prescott in the Franchise group

Mayfield moves into middle of road with upside

Mac Jones & Burrow could very well have a sophomore slump

not a bad list tho

Max Jones wasn’t good last year.
Burrow. No chance he has a sophomore slump. Dude is legitZ

Never say never…

What he did last year was nothing short of amazing; to live up to those standards or play even better, lord have mercy on us all.

Chase provided a great security blanket….Watson needs a legit #1

Watson has a legit #1, its the fact he doesnt have a legit #2 or #3 is the issue. Hopefully Bell can out play his draft slot, and hopefully DPJ can continue to develop into a legit #2 and deep threat.

I agree on Bell, think he can play on this level. He’s no Appleby in terms of athletic talent. ;)

Peoples Jones is a #3 on a playoff team.

I like Cooper as a two, really good player.

Watson needs a legit #1, but I think one could make the argument that Watson’s passing accuracy could make up that difference. Similar to what KC did with Hill, Mahomes lights it up this year; straight baller.

DPJ is a preseason All Pro. And a Regular Season All Joe. That’s it.

DPJ is a big bodied receiver who can win contested catches downfield and is also one of the better blocking receivers in the league.

If you're expecting more, you're asking a fish to climb a tree.

Would prefer if he got open.
