Early 22 GM Thread! (Trade Ideas here)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If Laureano can be had, why not get him, instead of letting Seattle acquire him and then accepting a much lesser outfielder.

Seattle's outfield quality is a fantasy. They had the second lowest OF WAR in baseball last season.

Haniger is a rental.
Lewis has had two major knee surgeries and has played 90 games in his pro career once. He may be a DH going forward.
Kelenik may or may not be really good.
Fraley hasn't shown much in his three MLB looks.

Though I certainly prefer Franmil DHing, he could play RF for us in the right or dire circumstances. He's an inhouse OF upgrade if we don't add anybody else, which is very unlikely. I don't think we'd target a DH, but they can be cheaper production.

Reynolds - why not say it again. You're hoping you buy a player who is one of the best players in the league the next 3 years at least. Three years in baseball time is rather long really. Extremely expensive.

I'm ready to sit on our eggs for another year, only this time around a fair amount of the true "rookies" will be top prospects. If Valera, Rocchio, Freeman, Morris, Palacios, Kwan, Lavastida are future MLers, most of these guys should see some ML action at some point in 2023. Unless we are in a real playoff fight, then roster spots will be tighter.

All the guys (and more - I certainly left some out) above should not be counted on producing/playing as a MLer in 2022, but 2023? Sure. They may fail or power up slowly, but the real homer in me wants to believe George Valera (for an example) will be so damn good, breaking camp in 2023 isn't farfetched..

Extend as many guys you can, trade something and sign some budget free agents. What they normally do. But - I won't complain if they spend heavy in FA at all. In fact I'd probably like it but don't expect it/advocate for it.

Free Agents <=== the land of diminishing returns..

@CATS44

Reyes wants to be more than a DH and it's likely corner OF is better for him than 1B... He will get a chance to show he can play out there and hopefully we don't have to worry about him if he plays out there...

@Gson

What I mean by extra, is a player that can be traded/moved while still having someone that can produce from that position... if Chapman can be acquired by the Blue Jays then they have room to move a bat for a pitcher since they would have too many players in the INF and a full OF...

So let's see here...

A trade between the the Jays would be Chapman plus Bassitt for SS Martinez, 3B Smith, SP Kloffenstein, SP Hoglund...

Then if we did the Guardians, A's and Jays...

Jays get Plesac, Chapman

Guardians get Guirrel Jr, Smith, McGuire, Kloffenstein

A's get Groshans, Hoglund and Battenfield

Though BTV says the last trade cannot be done... Jays have 48 out and 48 in... Guardians have 26 out and 24 in, A's have 26 in and 24 out... Not exactly sure why that doesn't work...

You must have broke it..

This deal looks like everyone involved will be happy with the return, especially the A's.. and a little sad about what they're losing, especially the Jays.. If you believe Kloffenstein is a direct replacement for Plesac, save for a couple of years.. then this works..

Then you put it in and see what happens haha

And Kloffenstein is a better FV than Battenfield but Battenfield has a better floor and more likely to succeed in my mind. A's need a high floor style of SP arm in a deal, in my mind.

A's likely will move Olson, Chapman, Bassitt, Montas and Manaea sometime this season. Laureano has more time for control, so he is available but at Oaklands price. Trade those 6 and you have a farm rebuild start pretty quickly...

I think moving Laureano before his suspension is up.. makes him cheaper.. it also satisfies the Mariners need for Kyle Lewis' back up or replacement assuming he doesn't come back from yet another knee surgery.. It would allow the M's to move Kelenic to LF.. making Haniger and his one your rental contract..available for an unusually high price... like packaging Evan White along with Haniger?..wouldn't hurt my feelings.. I thought Evan White had a huge upside.. until the injury.. with France/Fraley.. the M's can cut their losses.. their loss.. our gain?.. The early rumors are that White is going to be completely ready to go by the start of spring training, btw..

Edit: the Mariners would want a Middle Infielder.. like Freeman or Arias..

The net effect of these deals would be:

-Plesac and one Freeman/Arias, Lower prospect Pitcher out
-Lourdes Gurriel Jr, Mitch Haniger, Reese McGuire, Evan White and Kevin Smith in..

Then the A's aren't going to move him until his value is higher... Seattle nor Cleveland is going to overpay for him...

Jerry DiPoto is in a urgent/must win situation..let him pay or overpay.. the Guardians portion of the deal is to exploit the weak minded...

He isnt going to overpay for an OF...

Actually the A's main motivation will be salary reduction.

Trade him now for potentially "less" of a return because he is suspended or wait until he is back and hope he doesn't suck or get injured.

However, if they do hold onto him and he comes a top player in the league... Congrats to them, but I don't think they will be trying hard to "maximize" his trade value and he certainly is available.

Edit. I have zero interest in adding Ramon Laureano, rather see Palacios or Kwan instead.

I dont remember if his service time got changed cause of the suspension and if it did, he has 4 years of control not 3 (I've seen both thing from people) either way the A's aren't going to move him until they get the price they want since he isn't expensive.

I need to see him go without performance enhancers coursing through his veins before I give anything of value for him. I don't really care for him, but he's a pretty good player.....maybe.

Good God I need this lockout to be over already!

It doesn’t like the Cleveland return: wants a higher valued player. For instance a three player return rather than four.

Kinda like attempting to get to Reynolds value with seven or eight players or something:)
