Early 22 GM Thread! (Trade Ideas here)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If we acquire a MLB SP, we can trade one.

But as we know, just about every time this org has traded a SP, it has gotten an MLB ready SP in return. And it has never traded an established SP with four years of control left, so the return would have to be much higher in terms of MLB talent than anything we have seen.

Plesac in his present contract situation is worth more in trade than any SP this FO has ever traded...by a wide margin.

Most of the trade targets suggested for Plesac are way too low.

Plesac's value is lower right now so we would be trading him low in a sense, but I have no qualms with the return in my deal, but then again I design it lol

We just cannot stay put with the roster that we have, so we gotta do something, but we have to be smart about it as well.

With our roster, we do lack MLB ready guys with power hence why I am leaning towards Smith over Lopez, but both make sense. On paper Smith is the better INF while Lopez is the better OF. I mean his short time in CF, his numbers are in between Kwans and Straw's... On our roster I would put Smith to RF.

I am actually thinking with Laureano we create space on the 40 man to add the other guys essentially and get our RF long term ya know? Plus both guys we have more than two years of control left, so we can move them when we feel other guys are ready.

Two trades I have up on BTV (baseball trade values) are...

CLE gets Laureano + Bassitt for Espino, Jones, Gavin Williams, Angel Martinez and Jose Tena

Then...

CLE gets Guirrel, C McGuire, INF/OF Kevin Smith, RHP Chad Dallas for Plesac and RHP Lenny Torres.

Then I would cut/trade Mercado for whatever I could get for him... try to extend Bassitt for 1-2 more seasons after 22 (he's an Ohio Native after all)... Then a small swap of INF Ernie Clement for LHP Tyler Gilbert to add another arm... Then I think I need to make a cut here, so whichever position player is rated their worst...
The bolded will never happen and for good reason. I wouldn't give Jones straight up for Laureano, especially not knowing what he's going to look like after the suspension. We don't need another CFer unless you intend to upgrade the one you have. You'd also be selling low on Jones right now. Espino is untouchable and we'd be fools to trade him now. I see no reason to waste resources on acquiring another SP when there is about to be a logjam of them from the system. There's plenty of quality depth. This is not the same scenario as last season.

We do lack MLB ready guys with power and you're not adding much in any of these deals. If you think 20 HR over a 600 AB season is a power hitter then you and I have different ideas about it, and that's fine. I'm not lowering my standards because this team's OF has been the least productive in MLB. If we want a team capable of winning the division and/or getting into the playoffs then it needs addressed. Just saying "it's better than last year's" isn't going to cut it. Either get JRam and Reyes some protection or start looking toward 2023 and you know what that means.

Who can we get that can get the power you want?

HARD... VERY HARD.. DIAMOND HARD PASS on trading Williams and Espino.. DEAD ON ARRIVAL...

I doubt they trade Laureano without Espino added... at least that's the price set by BTV...

Hard to say really Coach. I don't know how they intend to address the issue or if what/who they want is even available. I stated last night that I would be very aggressive in an effort to get Lane Thomas and there's a fit between the 2 teams. I really like Yepez too. Neither of those are my original ideas. I know some don't, but I like Vientos and think he's going to end up being the type of hitter we're in search of. Could we make a deal sending Plesac to the Angels for Adell and Detmers?

I've argued that Espino's value is way too low on that site. For whatever reasons BA's list is most influential in their "formula" and they don't even have updated video the last I looked. If they look at Espino's talent and performance and come away with the current value then someone needs their head examined.

See if I am the Angels I am not moving Detmers... They haven't been able to get a starting rotation together so how can they trade someone who is supposed to be in it for the long term?

I am not against Yepez or Vientos just cannot count on them in 22... essentially I would like a MLB proven hitter ya know?

I think Laureano is overrated and I agree with your assessment of Espino, but either way I don't think he will be as cheap as we would like...

If Espino is a "requirement" for a Laureano trade, you laugh and hang up the phone..

I can't speak for the Angels, but their problem is their terrible farm system. They just don't have much to deal and even Adell's value has tanked because he hasn't performed yet. The potential is there of course, but........ The argument that they need to add is more legit than Cleveland's IMO. Their window is definitely now with that payroll and aging roster. You might be able to take advantage of that.

Look, I don't hate Gurriel Jr, but I don't hold him in high regard either. He's a consistent performer even if unspectacular, but I'm not trading Plesac to get him.

You can't count on Smith either, but yet you suggested putting him in RF. Give me Yepez over Smith every time.

Yepez isn't a strong fielder while Smith actually has a lot of upside as one... Did you look at Smith's 21 season?

Angel wouldn't be smart trading Detmers honestly... They haven't been able to compete cause their SPs haven't either been able to produce nor stay on the field...

Not even for Olson. There just isn't enough control. Anyone not named Espino, Rocchio, or Valera is in play if the A's want to deal with us. This idea that the Guardians have to sell the farm to win now at any expense needs to go out the door. We don't have an older roster that's about to hit FA and we have a top 5 farm system that is very close to pumping out gobs of talent.

Yes I did and he might be a good get. I've mentioned him in the past. I also mentioned Espinal as a target.

Thing is when considering a deal with the Cardinals, there is more than one target. I'll get to that later. I have to get ready for work.

Yeah the Olson comment was weak - went back and deleted it.
