Mitchell said there was some miscommunication between him and Mobley on Thursday night, with the pair being unable to get on the same page with their pick-and-roll approach. There were other times Mitchell opted not to give the Mobley the ball in a straight isolation, believing it might’ve taken the team out of its offensive flow. Mitchell also pointed out, like Garland, that the Nuggets deserve credit for their defensive adjustments. And while Mitchell admitted the laid-back youngster can be more forceful about getting touches, especially when there’s an advantageous matchup, Mobley wasn’t to blame for Thursday’s lack of fourth-quarter opportunities.
“I’m not putting this on Evan for not demanding the ball,” Mitchell said. “That’s on us to get him the ball and get him in those spots. It’s tough when it’s happening so fast. The looks are different, game slows down, guys are tighter, but we can continue to build on that.”
