Game Thread | 2021-2022 Season | Game #69 | Sixers @ Cavs | March 16, 2022 | 7:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You gotta go to Garland over Goodwin. Thats an obvious decision. Garland isnt supposed to throw the ball off dudes ankles and leave their best 3pt shooter with 3seconds left to double their C 19 feet away from the basket. Thats not on JBB.

What IS on JBB?

Our worst defender guarding a league MVP who could literally break in half over his leg.

The lack of creativity on offense thats a continuous problem.

Putting the team in a hole to dig out of every night. We have to play perfect 2nd halves against good teams to have a chance to win.

Either no adjustments or really fucking stupid ones.

The 3 pt defensive scheme.

And a lot more. Toronto just has to beat the Clippers 3rd string tonight to fully erase what was a 3 game lead less than a week ago. Well done JBB! Youve managed to flush our season down the toilet.
We’ll he did keep Cedi glued to the bench. Have to give him props for that.

I expected a loss, but we actually had a lot of chances to end up winning this tonight, and didn't deliver. DG's error on defense to double Embiid and leave Maxey open was probably the worst of the mistakes. He has not been very good since his 41 pt game, and it's been frustrating to watch. Still, as Boobie said, every coach will stay with the All-Star down the stretch against a top team, and not go to a sign-on like Goodwin, even though Goodwin was playing well tonight.

Individual stats:

Starters:
Stevens 8-2-1 with a steal and a block in 18 productive minutes
Markkanen 13-4-2 with 2 steals in 33 minutes
Mobley 13-9-3 with a block in 31 minutes
Okoro 17-5-1 with heavy D on Hardin in 41 minutes
Garland 22-5-7 with a steal in 37 minutes 5-15 from the field, 11-12 from the line

Bench: 41-14-11 in 25 minutes, we killed Philly when their starters were out.
Windler 0-2-1 with a steal in 11 minutes
Love 10-7-0 with a steal in 17 minutes
Brown 8-2-0 with 2 steals and a block in 11 productive minutes 4-6 from the field
LeVert 15-1-7 with a block in 25 minutes I'd like him to get 30 minutes or more
Goodwin 8-2-3 with a steal in 14 minutes

Going back to that Maxey three possession... Mobley (with Lauri)forced Embiid to pass it out from the middle paint area. Joel passed it to Tobias on the left wing who passed it to Maxey in the corner. Mobley made a super human effort to get all the way onto Maxey in the corner which forced him to pass out of the shot. There was a cross movement between Maxey and Tobias and Mobley stayed with Tobias in the paint. Maxey? Should've been Garland's man. DG shades to Joel and leaves Maxey for a wide open wing three :(

Goodness!

How in the hell did Mobley get over there? Not only that, but he maintained his balance and contained a Maxey drive. The guy is ridiculous.

Would've been a big stop...

Dude, you go with your best dudes with the game on the line. Benching Garland would have been fucking stupid as hell. He's the best player we have on this team. He had a tough night. Big fucking deal. Without him we would be in fucking NBA purgatory begging for Chet Holmgrens ugly ass.
He is ugly.

Thought they lost this early in the fourth, sixers will still struggling and we were worse, chance to extend the league missed.

That garland play on D was awful, he’s in a bit of a rut. He’s an all star, you don’t bench him for Goodwin. Could have kept Goodwin in sure, but not for garland.

Love your avatar, BTW.

Garlands regressing a bit.

Hasn't quite arrived the way maybe he thinks he has and is playing a little more selfishly than he was earlier in the season.

It's up to JBB to get back to playing the way he was a month or two ago.

And my God Goodwin can play. More than 10-12 minutes a night. Play him. He's better than some emergency 3rd stringer. I've seen enough at this point.

Jbb and his fucking rotations. Come on man
I'm sure YOU would have put Goodwin, LeVert, Windler, Love, and Moses out on the floor together?

Because that was one of the lineups that brought us back from a huge first half deficit. THAT lineup created complete chaos in the Sixers defense that had been completely shutting down our starters, and a similar lineup did it again later in the second half.

They moved, they passed, they hustled, they scrambled on both ends of the floor. Something the starters used to do but now they're too good to do that. They think they can just steamroll over a set high intensity defense by giving it to Darius and stand and watch. News flash, the whole league can now shut that shit down.

JB needs to get the tape out of that impromptu second unit and show them the ball movement, the unselfishness, the speed and sense of urgency. Because our starters have lost that.

Darius used to be able to create chaos on the defense all by himself before but now they have they adjusted. Now he just forces everything into their teeth, just like Sexton used to when he was at his worst.

No, they need to break this shit down and get the whole team back to playing as a TEAM, being unselfish, sharing the ball, staying active and always moving with a sense of purpose. Unless we get that back we're toast.

Now onto Denver. That should be fucking fun.

We really needed at least 1 win from Minnesota, Chicago, and Philly.

I'm aware benching Garland in crunch time is unrealistic, but JBB pulled Goodwin way before that. He was the X factor who changed our whole momentum with the bench dudes... if you're a smart coach, you reward players for that. Hell, play him with Garland at the end if you like. But don't toss him aside like he's trash.

Lauri Markannen guarding Joel Embiid. That is a doozy. And thats the primary reason dudes were sprinting to help. Because the next play after the Maxey 3 Embiid swatted Lauri away like a fly from 10 feet away and got an easy layup.

So yeah, that alone forced the team into feeling like they had to step up and make a play. And we got burned on both ends of it.
Markannen had Embiid in a good spot defensively on that critical play where Garland chose to unnecessarily double team him with about 4 seconds left on the clock, leading to the wide open momentum regaining Maxey three.

But fair enough. I can see that. Didn't lead to all the Sixers 3's in the second half though. They actually only made 4 three the entire second half and we've already established that one of those was due to a Garland mistake, unnecessary and not likely what he was asked to do scheme wise.

There is literally nobody in the NBA who can stop Embiid 1-on-1, and we certainly have nobody that can come even close (that includes Allen). That's not how you guard him in the first place.

Who would you have put on him? He immediately proceeded to destroy Mobley, Allen is not available, Moses is a twig on a 10 day contract and the rest... don't make me laugh.

Mobley easily with the game on the line. He wasn’t getting post ups like he was early. Markannen got bailed out by Embiid settling for jumpers for awhile. Then they put him in motion, Markannen took the wrong angle on an off ball screen and it was over before Embiid even received the ball.

A slump is not regression. A month or two ago? He just had some unbelievable games in the past 2-4 weeks and when considering the injuries and the lack of shooters on the team, there are times were he HAS to take over like that.

But today, his shot was off as it has been during his 4-5 game slump and he did not read the situation right. We had a good flow going. He should have waited until that flow from everyone else shut off or disappeared before being more dribble/ISO heavy

I wanna see the 3 of them at least.

I just really miss Rubio. Like, really. He was our savior

I miss Rubio a lot. It’s so nice having a coach on the floor…especially when you lack one on the bench.
