Game Thread | 2021-2022 Season | Game #69 | Sixers @ Cavs | March 16, 2022 | 7:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Mobley got his ass handed to him the whole first half. He's just too weak. Expecting a 20 year old to deal with Embiid is trying to squeeze blood from a stone.

Lauri made a mistake. Wasn't the only one. This is a loss from a young team missing wide open shots and making mental mistakes in crucial moments.

Lauri would have done even worse if he got posted up all half like Evan did.

We started the game sleep walking. A better start and we have a W tonight. Great effort by the Cavs. The Sixers will be afraid to face the Cavs with Allen in the playoffs.

Guys I'll be honest at this point start rooting for the 8th seed.

It's be in our interest for the Nets to pass us and up 7.

Yeah, one blown defensive play against Joel Effing Embiid, crucify him!
It was only the most important defensive play of the game to that point….no big deal…in fact…. just wing it in those situations I say!
Pointing out an individual mistake, and a pretty clear one to diagnose, is not crucifying him.

I know that sounds crazy from the guy everyone think is so far up JBB’s asshole, but breaking down individual mistakes or even season long choices that we think need adjustment or correction over time is what we should be doing for all the players and all the coaches.

I don’t think there is anyone more high on Garland or full of praise for his skill set as IBWT so talking about that play is not turning on DG or crucifying Him.

DG is in a bit of a slump and is young, still gaining experience, he’s not even entering his early prime yet, let alone true prime. Even amongst the stars, almost everyone has slumps and almost everyone makes some dumb plays, especially amongst the younger players,

We are undermanned and overmatched against Embiid, so I would wager if we played it exactly as you think we should they'd still beat it one way or another. Embiid was taking everyone's lunch money in the first half and JBB's adjustments somehow cooled him off in the second half while having nobody who can really check Embiid. I don't exactly call that a win, but maybe just a little.

I didn't want garland out,but take out okoro, levert, lauri, whoever and put in Goodwin because he's a baller. He just makes plays.

It’s moreso just what I see as consistently making poor late game crunch time decisions in games against top tier competition. It’s nothing new to see out of Bickserstaff and it will continue and was only one of many things he failed to do in the 4th quarter. Just an easy eyesore to point out to drive home the point. He’s not the dude for us long term.

I think me and Boobs were discussing the Lauri/Embiid play, not the DG failed steal attempt. And we disagree about JBB's use of Lauri in that exact situation. Maybe something different may have worked but I do know Lauri guarding Embiid and having Evan and Stevens switch onto him hard, sometimes trap, etc. somehow slowed him down and cooled him off.

And I love DG as much as anyone, and I want to see him meet his potential. What he's doing lately is far from it even though the counting stats look better than the eye test. I've commented on my opinion about what DG needs to do ad nauseam so I'll leave it at that.

I agree with you that JB often falls way short in the snap crunch time decisions. I've agreed he needs to lengthen his rotation (which he did bigtime tonight, BTW). And I've gone on at length about how I feel JBB needs to get focus on less dribbling, more moving and passing no matter how awesome DG's handle looks sometimes.

But I'm not going to say in 2022 that JB can't figure out a way to improve on his shortfalls, and will inevitably be fired by a certain date. It could happen, sure. If it does then I say it's a failure of the organization as a whole for not helping him figure out how to get better in his weak spots. And if JB is too stubborn to accept constructive criticism then I would agree he'll eventually need to go.

You seem to expect the head coach to be perfect in every aspect of the job. Then why are there analysts, assistants, GMs and so on? To watch him fail so they can inevitably fire him? Or do they all sit down identify gaps and areas ripe for improvement, and how to correct deficiencies going forward? Are we the only ones who see the problems you speak of? I assume everyone in the organization can see the same shit. Is there anyone in the organization who can identify ways to correct issues, or is that all on one guy?

I don't know what your management style is, maybe you just wait until people fail and then shitcan them? I'd rather communicate and coach, and even the coaches need coaching. I hope Altman understands things that way.

Lauri would have done even worse if he got posted up all half like Evan did.
What's the point of saying that? Should we expect Lauri to guard JOEL FUCKING EMBIID? Are you smoking some shit?

Mobley couldn't do it. He got smoked in the first half and made some bad decisions in the second half. He was losing his man all the fucking time whenever they switched. His help was often late.

Lauri couldn't do it, either. Not strong enough, lacks the reach Mobley at least has.

Brown had some nice minutes, I don't know how sustainable that would have been at say 25 minutes.

I don't understand the point of going around on this particular carousel, other than you like to bitch about JBB. I'm more concerned about why our 3 point defense has completely evaporated. That's a legitmate gripe about his zone.

Right now Mobley is overnatched in the post. There's nothing to be done about that. He's not doing anything wrong he's just too skinny.

So giving that, to my eye, Garland and Markennen are just killing our 3 point defense. In ways that wasn't happening earlier in the year.

I'm trying to follow what you're saying here: Mobley gets overmatched in the post, so Garland and/or Markannen come to help, and for that reason they're killing our 3 point defense? And they're killing it in ways they weren't ealier in the year...when we were a top 5 3PT defensive team?

This didn't start 3 games ago, brother.

Our 3 point defense has been on a steady downward trend for over a month.
