Isaiah Hartenstein: wowing people in Vegas

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Pretty sure that makes the Cavaliers a Luxury Tax team...and would also be a vast overpay. I'm a Hartenstein fan, but with the gaping hole at SF, wasting a chance to have him for $2.2M, and not being a contending team, I can't get on board with paying the dude $9M per.
Being a luxury tax team sounds scary, but it shouldn't be. Take advantage of the fact that we have the second richest owner in the league. It'll be worth it.

It's not like we'd be $20 million over the tax line.

Also, I'm a little perplexed that the Cavs didn't give him the Q.O. Did they do it so they could offer him the MLE? Can you offer the MLE after extending the Q.O.?

Being a Luxury Tax team isn't just about paying more money. Their are penalties that come along with it. Also, pretty sure Gilbert is 3rd behind Ballmer and Tsai.

Once you extend someone the QO, you can offer anything you could otherwise. Jarrett Allen was tendered the QO and then signed his deal. Being restricted just means you can match any offer the player received in FA. They could've signed him to a minimum deal up through a MAX deal (assuming they had full Bird Rights, which I *think* they did since they traded for him, but could be wrong).

29 other teams that haven’t offered a deal good enough(or at all) for Hartenstein to be their 2nd or 3rd Center.

Id have no problem bringing him back but I think he’s a tad bit overrated on here. Those other 29 teams all have the same tape of him in Denver and Cleveland that we saw and it would seem theyve come to different conclusions about him then some here.

They must either think that a lot of what he was doing lathe season here wouldn’t fly in more competitive games or that his foul rate is just too astronomic for him to be relied on,

I just don't know if he really has a role on the team. With the lack of 3pt shooting, Nance, Love, and Wade all need to play to balance things out. Mobley looks like a good playmaking big, I'm not sure Hartenstein will have much opportunities to be a passing big if they want to prioritize Mobley's development. Hartenstein would be signing up to be the 6th big man on this team.

If he does sign with us I think it will be right before training camp. I think he is hoping he can find a better role with someone else first.

Once upon a time, 29 other teams didn't bother to sign Fred Can Fleet either. Sometimes a diamond is just waiting there in the roughage.

Sure, there can be examples found in either direction.

FVV is not a good analogy though. He was passed up by 29 other teams based on projections of his game and traits as demonstrated in College.

Hartenstein has several years now of NBA game tape.

Not to say he can't also be that developmental success story perhaps, but FVV is not really relevant to Hartenstein

He's not great, but I don't know what other options the Cavs are looking at these days. I can imagine that the Cavs were hopeful about Kabengele as a potential stretch 5, but he did his absolute best to quash those hopes in summer league. Really feels like we're an Allen injury away from total chaos in the frontcourt. Hartenstein could at least step in and limit the damage in a scenario like that.

i think so too. i think hartenstein has a deal waiting for him, it's just the front office is just waiting for everything to settle down on the trade and free agent market.

I am in total agreement with this.

Yeah it feels pretty safe to infer that there's some kind of disconnect off the court with this guy.

Could be over desired role, playing time, money, social/cultural fit, or many other things, but I don't believe that the Cavs saw how he played for them last year and decided he couldn't possibly have a place with this group based on game alone.

Some tape from a couple seasons back.

God do I miss full arenas!

Dude has great hands and positioning/anticipation.

I really liked his minutes last year.

I'm surprised no one thought he was good enough to be their backup C yet.

He definitely has big warts, like foul trouble. BUt he's still very young and has shown some pretty unique skills for his size.

I'm for bringing him back.
  • I was very impressed with his play last season. Especially for a backup center.
  • He and Mobley are excellent passers, that could lead to some great ball movement.
  • Whatever we sign him for automatically becomes a trade chip.
  • Since the Cavs Girls are gone, it would be great to see Kourtney Keller in the stands.
