Jimmy Butler Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I like the fact that Gilbert is at least exploring this. If we can do it without giving up Sexton and Cedi. This could be the building year to attract a free agent like Kyrie or another star to be part of a big 3. A big 3 that has the potential to turn to a big 4 if Sexton or Cedi develop properly.

We don't really know what the value of Butler is. He was traded a year ago because the Bulls thought they would get the most value with 2 years left on his contract. Even then it wasn't a massive price. It was Lavine coming off injury, Chris Dunn, and moving up 9 spots in the draft (#16 to #7 in the first round).

We also don't know what they value with just extending KAT and having Wiggins on the roster. Will they allow Thibs to have input on it. .

Can't get Butler without trading Sexton... It's not going to happen. Sexton will be the centerpiece of the deal. We can maybe get them to take back a bad contract in Clarkson though, which opens up a max contract slot for the Cavs.

Considering the number of teams that are interested for a one year rental with a bad temperament, what could we even offer in terms of assets to acquire him?

Minnesota already got burned so how will us trading for him when outside his “wish list” work in our favor?

But what if we could get him without giving up too much of our youth? If you were Cavs' GM what would you be willing to trade for him?

C'mon...it's ok. Dream a little ;)
If I’m Gilbert, I trade anything/anyone but Love. This would be a “sell season tickets” move 100%. We’d make the playoffs for sure, but wouldn’t be a contender.
Hell, let’s dream bigger and hope this lures Kyrie back....still not beating the West.

Well, to be fair, it's not dreaming when we're literally making trade offers for a guy that will get traded in the next week or two..

Think about it.. We have a compelling offer, and given Butler's requested destination (a team with another max cap slot), there's not many teams that will fit for Minnesota, especially considering their desire to trade him East.

The Cavs are definitely in the conversation here, if not being in a very strong position to make a trade.

If I’m a GM and have full say, I don’t even think about trading Love, Sexton or any picks for this douche.

I think that's exactly what Gilbert is hoping for actually -- trading for Butler means targeting Kyrie in the summer. That's why Butler listed three teams with two max slots.

BTW, we can't trade Love and we have no recent picks to trade (2022 at the earliest).

So with that being said, Sexton for Butler, on it's face, makes a great deal of sense.

Then he never should have allowed us to trade him.

I don't think Kyrie wanted to play on the Cavs given (1) the dynamic with LeBron, (2) how poorly managed we were at the time.

Free agency affords him the ability to request franchise-level changes, like not having Ty Lue, and making sure there's a system in place that allows him to play point duties.

It wouldn't be RCF without a ridiculous safari that doesn't have a chance in hell of happening.

Soo... I've got the netted hats.

I think what this Safari means........is that Gilbert is not selling yet, but probably will in the next 5 years.

Depends how serious the Cavs are. If they offer Sexton (which I think might be a little crazy) They would be frontrunners. I wouldn't do that without a long term commitment.

I hope to god Sexton isn't involved in any offer.. As much as I like the whole Butler/Kyrie thing, I'd just as soon watch Sexton grow. Kid is hyper competitive and if anyone is going to reach his ceiling, it's him. I'll take my chances.

Keep reading where Miami is being very aggressive...I'm sure Wade would love to get him down there in his final season.
