Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Another game against a good defense, another Johnny stinker. Stunning.

The only three defenses Johnny has played well against this year just gave up 71% passing for 775 yards, 5 TDs and 0 INTs to Weeden, Mallett and Stafford and all lost.

I can't fathom the people defending him as our QB of the future today because of his running. It's crazy. Johnny was so inaccurate and made so many poor decisions that our 2nd half gameplan was to design runs for him and generally stop him from throwing. And that's a positive?

The only way Johnny stays next year is if Pettine and Farmer keep their jobs. No regime in their right mind is going to tie their fates to Johnny and his playstyle.

Quarterbacks need to work out of the pocket above all else and that's where Johnny looks like an absolute mess against real defenses. I hope we only have to watch one more game of this streetball garbage before we make Johnny someone else's problem.

I am not looking forward to this offseason. Manziel isn't the answer and any QB in this upcoming draft will be a giant reach at the 2 spot.

We're screwed no matter what. As is the norm.
The poor us there is no qb to draft narrative was silly to laugh at first, now it just makes me ill every time this uneducated take is repeated. Goff is going to really shock some of you when he develops into a pro bowl qb baring inury.

Since I've been following the NFL draft there seems to be one constant. Every year people say 'well the QBs this year really aren't anything special, but just take a look at the class X years away! That one is when you want to be drafting a qb!'

Fast forward X years and repeat the previous statement like clockwork.

100 Percent right. Too many RCF posters here that read random early mock drafts, instead of actually watching college football games.

This is absolutely correct

I still haven't seen Johnny with a beer.. 4-Loko, Champagne, but no beer. Are we sure he has a penis?

Not sure what game you watched, but the only reason we were in the game was because johnnys ability to extend plays and drives with his legs. Sure he made some bad throws, but some of those you have to live with. His receiving core isn't exactly stelar.

I watched a 13/32 performance with 0 TDs and what should have been multiple TOs. And... we lost. Hence why it's not a sustainable style of play. If he'd have hit on one of the 20 passes he missed terribly on, we probably win this game.

Did his receiving corps* force him to revert back to horrible mechanics - opening his stance and throwing off of his back foot?

He did throw a tight spiral to his right tackle. I'll give you that.

Yikes. I've been rooting for Johnny, but it's becoming increasingly clearer that he is not the guy. You can't blame the receivers for Johnny missing them when they were open yesterday.

The Chiefs just sat back and stopped any deep prayer passes because they knew Johnny couldn't make an accurate midrange throws. That opened up a few scrambling lanes for Johnny which he definitely took advantage of, but also won't hurt a defense as has been proven time and again. Plus, Johnny will eventually be killed if he does that 10-12 times a game again.

All of that, combined with the obvious red flags off the field, and I see no way that you can trust him moving forward.

Despite how bad the Browns have been for the last decade, you still only get so many chances to pick at the very top of the draft and get the guy you want. If they pass on a QB in this draft it would be a monumental mistake, but I think it's pretty clear that the writing is on the wall.

Let's hope Johnny keeps his nose clean, goes out and plays decent in the last game (in a loss) and we can ask for a 4th rounder for him. That's best case scenario for him, IMO, and that's coming from someone who bought a Johnny jersey.

Time to accept reality.

No one should be making excuses for Johnny. Johnny himself said he was terrible yesterday and the only reason why we lost yesterday.

The reality is that we will not get a 4th for him if he plays well next week.

In fact, I think we will get a 7th or nothing at all, with nothing in the lead at this point.

Not sure what game you watched either. He made a LOT of bad throws. The only reason we were in the game is because he was forced to use his legs because he couldn't get it done in the air and gave up on it. Our first drive out of halftime had him throwing for 10 yards going all the way down the field.

I'd rather see a game where Johnny is throwing and not getting it done rather than a game where Johnny is throwing SO poorly he just gives up on it (until he was forced to throw at the end and looked awful doing it).

Unless we're anticipating getting some 7 foot receivers and guys with 8 foot arms, those throws Johnny missed yesterday aren't being caught by anyone.

You can't win in the NFL when you're forced to use your QB to run a pseudo wildcat. Johnny was dreadful yesterday even if he had run for 200.

He's just being modest and holding himself to a higher standard. He played great!

Seriously though, I love quarterbacks who can admit when they're terrible. That's a winning quality even for a losing quarterback. Give me the losing quarterback who admits his mistakes over the winning quarterback every day of the week.

Heart beats talent 10 times out of 10 in today's NFL.

Ive been a pretty big supporter of Manziel, but yesterday he sucked. His run game was great, but we all know how this story ends. Once people adjust that, hes toast. I think he has more tools than some of his running predecessors, and will catch on eventually. I hope its here, but we are still so many years away it sickens me.

My one argument for keeping him (putting potential of Goff/Lynch aside), is the haul we could get for #2 if Goff is on the board and San Fran gets desperate. They want him, he probably wants to play there, and hes a local guy. That to me, is enough for them to overpay. Add in the fact that Browns, Chargers, Cowboys could all use some sort of QB. Us for starting, Cowboys for developmental, and Chargers because Rivers has voiced his displeasure with moving. Even if the chance is minimal, it could put a real damper on the 49ers rebuild.

If you just go by the trade value chart by dropping from #2 to #6, there is a 1000 pt gap. The 49ers 2nd rounder is 520 pts, and then they still "owe us" 480 pts (240 of which could technically come from their 3rd).

So we add a 2nd + some to just drop down to 6. If there was ever a year to trade down...this may be it.

That being said....no way in hell do I let Farmer make the picks.

I know you're having fun, but I just want to clarify that I'm not arguing to keep Manziel because he was hard on himself.

I'm just saying that the Manziel apologists saying his performance yesterday was all due to not having better targets is a joke since Johnny himself and anyone that was watching could see that he missed open targets yesterday.
