Koby Altman

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Based on listening to Windy...

Chauncey and Lue very close. Would have dinner together during the finals on occasion. Spent day before Game 7 last year together. Also has indirectly worked for Dan when in Detroit as Chauncey was a spokesperson for one of Gilbert's companies.

Windy more than the other writers going all in on the report that Love was going to be traded to PHX for a lotto pick that WOULD BE SHOPPED AROUND. Sticking point was that nothing was in stone yet and that it would have been very risky to try and get Butler with that pick. Windy said Bulls looking for either 2 lotto picks or probably a lotto+starter.

To me, it seems like Griff's strategy may have had us in no man's land. Way too much to spend to acquire George, but not enough for Butler. The money is of course an issue for Griffin but it is far from the only reason, and after listening to Windy, I'm not really disturbed.

The uncertainty of George over Butler/Love is a big part of why you don't trade for him but it also makes it certain that if he stays we are in the repeaters tax for 2018-2019. I think this is also part of it for the ownership group. It's questionable if George helps more than Butler and I think without a 4th star, a trade of Love for George/Butler is closer to a lateral move than completely closing the gap on the warriors.

There is a possibility with the tax line going up every year that we can get out of the repeaters tax in 2018-2019 season and reset the clock on it. That goes away if you get Paul George and resign him. The tax line is 121 million for 2017-2018 and projected at 124 million for 2018-2018. They usually underestimate the projection just to be safe but even where it's at a couple small moves might get us right below it in 2018-2019.

Flip Love for the 4 and Alan Williams and I'm in.

Jason lloyd had an interview with 92.3 today and here is a summary from the cavs reddit, summarized by SCMAD. -Trade talks haven't frozen but they are being run by Dan

-Chauncey is getting the job and he will be surrounded by experienced FO people

-He thinks Butler is more smoke than fire and that a PG trade is more realistic

-He doesn't think Griff's departure was about vision but rather Griff wanting more power and money. He said he thinks Dan and Griff essentially shared the same vision

-He thinks Chauncey's comments about Love for Melo were likely for TV and he said he would be very surprised if Love was traded for Melo

-He would be very surprised if Kyrie was traded

-LeBron's comments about getting a play maker were more directed at Gilbert than Griff

-This being the first year of the repeater tax for the Cavs will be very interesting. He mentioned that we didn't actually have to give up Andy V for Frye when we made that trade and that we gave a up a 1st to get Andy's contract off the books

-Mentioned how every new GM Dan has had has been given less and less power. Said this situation is somewhat similar to Ferry's situation

-Said something to the effect of LeBron isn't happy about this but he doesn't know how much it impacts his future decisions. Might be different if he was a FA in 10 days rather than 1 year

-Windy apparently reported that Griff found a team who would be willing to give up a lotto pick for Love (he thinks it's the Suns) when asked about this report Lloyd said he knew nothing about it but that a trade for a lottery pick doesn't make sense for Cavs but that he guesses it could be packaged later.I think the question caught him a bit off-guard and was awkward for him to answer because he hadn't heard about it yet. It was a strange non-answer

Can someone please tell me why Billups - a guy with zero basketball management experience - is a candidate for a management position?

Can someone tell me why no one is talking about shit-canning Lue, who has shown nothing as a coach, and probably cost us Finals games this year?

Why on earth would we double-down on Lue, but not Griffin? This seems like the worst idea in the history of ideas.

Apparently, the guy answering the phone at the Cavs office today is Kobe Altman. I have had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Kobe. He strikes me as a sharp, young, and intelligent guy. He may be young, but he is a basketball lifer. In addition to being well aware with the NBA world, he may know more about the euroleague than anybody else in the organization. He knows Cedi Osman quite well.
He has been with the Cavs organization since 2012. So he has been well groomed. I hope he gets a chance. My biggest concern is that Chauncey might need to put his imprint on things.

I think the only upgrade is if we can trade TT for a star. I am afraid that Chauncey will trade for his buddy Carmelo and his huge salary.

TT isn't worth a starter let alone a star.

I really hope Gilbert comes to his senses and doesn't make Chauncey the GM or president. Just promote koby. Hire Chauncey as an advisor or assistant. It's completely unnecessary to make him anything more.

I don't mind them hiring Chauncey if he takes up the responsibility of being the middle man between ownership(Gilbert) and the players(LeBron). Hopefully this will allow the GM to focus on the basics of being a GM like scouting, contracts, trades, drafting, etc. Adding jobs like overseeing player development and other day to day stuff could round out Chauncey job description.

Griff seem like he was more of a team psychologist at times and needed to iron out things between the coaches, players, and ownership. Chauncey seems like the guy to take over that role bring a former player and his relationships between Gilbert and Lue.

As if this franchise couldn't be any more incompetent

Are we linked with anyone else other than Billups ?

I give Dan the benefit of doubt with the decision of parting ways with Griff even if I didn't agree with it. But appointing a rookie GM to support an already relatively young and inexperienced coach is just idiotic.

Its not like we are building for the future or anything where all can grow together. We are title or bust situation. So, what exactly it is that Billups would add to the team?

Carmelo if anything will force buyout and Cavs will claim him.

We let Griffin go and 2 minutes after that report was a follow up saying Billups would get the job.

So no......all this other stuff is a formality. Dan wants Chauncey. If he didn't, other names would have surfaced by now IMO.

The question is wether or not Chauncey will have personnel power or he'll be more of an equal to an established GM who can help him cut his teeth.

My nightmare scenario is Chauncey with a pushover GM, where we are just flying by the seat of our pants in the last year of LeBron's deal.
