Koby Altman

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I give Dan the benefit of doubt with the decision of parting ways with Griff even if I didn't agree with it. But appointing a rookie GM to support an already relatively young and inexperienced coach is just idiotic.

Its not like we are building for the future or anything where all can grow together. We are title or bust situation. So, what exactly it is that Billups would add to the team?
What does Billups add you say? How about player relations. Billups is well know and respected by players and FOs, alike. He has connections that Griff and other no name GMs don't have. Someone can crunch the numbers for him but he will make the sales pitch. Its easier to make a deal with someone you know and respect.

If you replace "deals" and "crunch numbers" with "coach", don't you have Ty Lue?

That approach got us like the 25th best coach in the league.

What always worries me about former players is to what level might they embrace a changing NBA vs "when I played" times. There was a reason Mark Jackson was holding back Golden State, he was stuck in 90's era isolation basketball with a 2010's ball movement/lack of handcheck oriented team.

I don't know Chauncey's vision at all, but 2000's Pistons-style basketball isn't about to make a comeback, imo.

People thinking Lebron isnt in the know on Griffin departure are fooling themselves. Why is it the report that Billups was front runner for GM minutes after Griffs release? There was no talk of anyone else before or after. LeBron puts out smoke screen thanking Griff, media reports LeBron has no knowledge of said release, mainly Windhorst. Backlash on Gilbert putting focus in him. Dan is a billionaire, he is consulting Lebron.

I want my next GM to be a good/great talent evaluator who can study the team needs and draft players that fit and have potential to become so we avoid more Anthony Bennett, Kay Felder, Christian Eyenga etc etc.

Maybe Mark Jackson was also "held back" in GS because Steph was 25 and still having yearly ankle issues, Klay 24, and Draymond was in his second year and still changing his body and learning to play in the league.

Kerr/Gentry's system getting implemented in 2014 definitely helped, but Jackson taught those guys how to be tough on D. He didn't have the benefit of getting to coach them in their prime though. He's a nut for sure but I think he got a bad wrap when people say he held them back

Also Butler deal fell through, now Butler looks stupid for wanting to leave. Butler back tracks and says he wants to stay in Chicago, makes sense. Chicago puts out report players say to stay away.

Well, I'm sure Love will appreciate Billups advocating that he be traded for Carmelo....

Dan Gilbert didn't get the email Griff sent him last year and just found out he is paying a mediocre coach 35 million for 5 years.

If Billups or the new GM can be better talent evaluators then those we've had in the past while putting an emphasis on defense and toughness we will be fine. I liked Griff but I didn't like us being a souped up version of the Mike D'antoni Suns teams. Hopefully this GM will make sure that practices will be run with a real purpose and structure.

Guess Ice-Cube wants to be assistant GM..get Snoop Dog to be special player personnel assistant..

What's next? Billups hires Larry Brown to be his GM so he can fire half the coaching staff within a week, and then half of the team is traded the next week.

I wouldn't be the least bit shocked if Lue's salary is one of the things that grated on Dan when it came time to pay Griff.

Mark Jackson and his successor both played in the NBA at the exact same time, so you kind of torpedoed your argument by bringing up the Warriors.

Behave.
