Let it all out. The Cavaliers Rant Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This is the ultimate disaster.

All season long I've been saying that pining after an extra wing when we have just two NBA level point guards on the roster (one of whom is a 30+ year old with a million miles on him) is beyond fucking stupid. And it really, really bit us in the ass now. Jesus.

What were they thinking? Valentine and Pangos cannot play PG in the NBA. That is a fucking fact. Denzel can be used in a microwave 11th man role when you need a couple of crazy 3s, Pangos can't even do that. I don't want to see that dude out there ever again. His complete inability to do anything was what led to Rubio playing exhausted and ended his season.

We're at a point now where we have to make a trade. There is no alternative. It's going to cost us, probably a rotation player, but there you go. We took a major risk and it backfired.

The Cavs need to find a vet PG who can shoot, play big minutes and step right in. Easier said than done at this stage.
Bullshit. They don't NEED to do anything. We were never gonna contend for the title this year. So now, we may move from playoff to play in. So what? Moving a core asset to find an "average" PG would be brain dead stupid.

Only thing this may impact, and not until this off season, is how they approach Sexton this summer. I think they probably have a stronger incentive to re-sign him at this point.

So many mix of emotions... too many words to use...
  1. Our team as a whole (without considering injuries) was about 9 guys deep, right? Allen, Mobley, Marky, Okoro, Garland, Rubio, Cedi, Love, and Sexton. These were the guys who deserve minutes (Wade, Stevens, and Valentine are replacement-level while Davis and Windler are borderline-end-of-bench).
  2. Well, the 1988-1993 teams were barely 8 deep (Daugherty, Nance, Williams, Price, and Ehlo the main guys with others mixed in... Harper, Sanders, Brandon, etc).
  3. So, our team had a good set of personalities, decent talent, and chemistry but also fragile because of potential injuries.
  4. I guess this is what you older guys felt when you lost Mark Price after 16 games during the 1990-91 season, right?
  5. Well, I also remember the Cavs looking good at the start of the 2000-01 season for 24 games (15-9 start to the season)... before we lost Big Z to injuries... again... for the umpteenth time...
This eats at me. And I tried breaking my hand from the frustration, but it just goes to show you what being a fan of a basketball team can do to someone. I really enjoyed watching the first 1/3 of the season, not like I'm gonna stop watching just because of some catastrophic Cleveland sports luck.

But let's not kid ourselves. This is why winning the elusive championship is so hard. Luck is just part of the battle. Just ask the Suns and Bucks who beat on teams missing key stars.

You can't develop three big men without consistent PG production. They are not ball-handlers. You also can't expect Garland to handle all that production, be the first scoring option, and not expect his health to deteriorate. So yeah, they need to get another average PG. Preferably two.

This is nothing like Jim Chones breaking his foot in 1976 or Brad Daugherty’s career ending due to his back injury. Tough setback for this season but our core three are still good. Koby did a great job obtaining Rubio for Prince but just horrible injury luck at guard.

Go look at that Kyle Guy boxscore for his first game for Miami.

I'm not second guessing, I'm first guessing. Kyle Guy looked like the better player in summer league. The org picked Pangos.

The org was wrong.

Well, look at the bright side - Goodwin looked solid today, on the offensive end at least. Might be a chance to get off Pangos.

I think they thought they could stash him with the Charge. COVID said “no you can’t”. Looks like a bad gamble

He is probably better than Pangos but Kyle Guy put up a very similar stat line in one of the 23 games he played last year for the Kings, the rest of the games he played were pretty insignificant stat lines.

If I never saw Pangos play for the Cavs again, it still wouldn’t be soon enough

Definitely not sure what the org saw in Pangos. Even for an end of the bench PG he just looks really... bleh.

To be fair, Kyle Guy isn’t a PG. Pangos wasn’t his competition.

It's pretty obvious what the Cavs saw and that it's his Canadian-ness...

Facts are this team flirts with Canadian players.

Tristan
Anthony Bennett
Andrew Wiggins

Wanted SGA badly

The fans here want Dillon Brooks & Cory Joseph in trades

Pangos

If Kyle Guy was from Montreal he would still be a Cavalier.

and I'd bet the Miami system serves him better than SAC. Miami picks up Caleb Martin from Charlotte and he's still a pain in the ass over there in South Beach. We'll see if he's kept after 10 days. Still, rather him here than Pangos for a number of reasons. Luckily they signed Goodwin so that might be a moot point.

My rant point is take care of 6-10 in the rotation just as much as 1-5. Ed Davis and the aforementioned Goodwin were quality signings, Cedi when he's not playing point, Dean Wade in a pinch are good. There are some spots this team's management just can't see. Guard is one of them (outside of Rubio, which was probably their GOAT pickup in this regard until it went south). Forward (due to scarcity) is another.
