Let it all out. The Cavaliers Rant Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He was acquired when we had a huge hole and not the best array of players available to plug it.

I didn't like this rationale for acquiring Lavert - to fill temporary holes caused by injuries. At this point in this rebuild, I think we should have been focused on the longer term.

But I think LeVert will have some value in a trade package. And to me it seems like that's where it will end up with him.

What do you expect "some value" to be? Because I don't like the idea of having given up a first round pick for a rental unless the rental is much better than Lavert.

Part of the issue with LeVert is that he a midseason addition. JBB seems to be okay at coming up with a plan at the outset of the season and getting a strong start from training camp. We saw this last year too with the aggressive trapping defense with Drummond/Nance that kept us around .500 about 15 games into the year. Once players start missing time from injuries or you make a trade, JBB seems to have a hard time adjusting his system for those. Last year with Allen wasn't so bad since you just made him do the Drummond screen slip stuff. This year, we added LeVert, a player who has a different skillset than any of the guys we have had on the roster in the last two years - especially among our wings. Yet, it feels like he was trying to be square pegged into the round hole that was Rubio's role as 2nd PG. LeVert has not performed well in the limited sample we have had, but I really think a lot of that is due to poor game planning and player managment +injuries. Hopefully, we can see a better return for his value next season.

I'm not a trade ideas guy so IDK. But I would hope we could package Caris with some of out other misfits to get a better version of himself.

All I know is playing DG 44 minutes a night is a recipe for disaster.

Now for my ramblings: If it becomes obvious this week that the 6th spot is a longshot then I probably start resting guys until the play in. Most of the teams next to Cavs in the standings (Toronto, Nets, Hornets, Hawks) seem to be playing their best basketball of the season while the Cavs look exhausted and have been playing their worst. The injuries suck but most of the other teams have been dealing with them as well. The Hawks have had multiple guys injured including Collins but have still been playing some really good ball heading into the play in incl beating the Warriors the other night. The Nets haven't even played Simmons yet.

Cavs best shot might be to beat ATL or Charlotte in the 2nd play in game but they need their guys rested and hopefully healthy. Otherwise they keep their lottery pick which might not be the worst outcome for the team tbh. Maybe they could package that pick + Levert(or Love/Cedi or even Markk) for a real difference maker during the draft.

I think going for that lottery pick is the play. Its clear we need more talent on this team, preferably a young wing. I would rather secure our future than get a short bump for 2022

I agree with this.

And what I came here to type. Especially if JA isn't going to come back and be able to contribute, might as well hope that pick comes back.

Also agree that DG needs not to be played 40+ minutes. Regardless of how "not a PG" he is, he is a better option than LeVert and any of the other guards in this way. Especially given that the Cavs missed several games of DG due to injury.

I think Koby and Mike (Gansey) need to make a move in the coaching booth. An assistant needs to be brought in to address this offense at the very least. Players like LeVert become less problematic, players like Okoro (who is trending in the positive direction) who need solid development, will benefit.

Title contender Memphis, with 2-3 (depending where the Lakers fall) firsts in 2022, had an opportunity to add a veteran to their young core but wisely passed as they know the value of first round picks and building from within.

Too bad our brass doesn't.

We don’t agree on a lot but I totally agree with you on this point!

You were literally just telling me two weeks ago about all that crow I was gonna eat.

Now it's time to tank.

They'll either win the playin game or they won't. There is no tanking at this point though. They're not gonna intentionally lose that game.

This can't be a serious take.

3 of our 5 starters are lottery picks.

Like...what?!

I said from the beginning that the Levert trade was a bad idea and I was right. I was hoping I wouldn't be but here we are.

Even his "good" games (like last night) aren't that good and don't justify the cost.
