Mamadi Diakite - The real Brobley

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You piggybacked off IBWT and insisted he was a SF.

Lol. That's funny.

Liked him from the very first second I saw him play in Preseason. Then IBWT made his big ass post and I agreed with him and I ran a long with wanting Diakite till this point.

For this team he will be a good SF. I said he was a SF/PF and I wanted him to play with Allen and Mobley together as a starter. Have we seen him play with them yet? nope. Until we do, shut your pie hole.

You did, but let's be fair you and I always adopt a lost puppy undrafted player every year.

Mamadi does a lot of little stuff and is really aggressive. He has a mean streak that Wade doesn't along with Center length.

He and Mobley haven't played together much, but that pairing looks really hard to score on. Their double and recover looks awesome.

Seems like a smart player.

You always try to be that guy who's the first to adopt some player before he blows up, only this time somebody else beat you to it with an exuberant write-up and you just latched on. He's playing as a natural big, yet you're suggesting he start, so who does he replace, Allen or Mobley?

It's all good, hopefully he fairs better than all of the other guys you prematurely appointed.

I don’t think Mamadi helps us at the 3, he just doesn’t have that skill set yet, but he certainly looks like a guy who can play the 4 and small ball 5. I really like him over Lopez when the opponent goes small.

I’m biased as a UVA alum. But I have friends who have children at UVA that follow the basketball program closely. One of them knows Tony Bennett (Cavaliers top shelf coach!), and mentions that Diakite was one of his favorite players.

Fun facts from Wiki.

Diakite enrolled at Blue Ridge School in early 2014.[6] When he first came to the United States, he could only speak French, and Guinean former basketball player Mamadi Diane was among those who helped him acclimate.[4] Diakite played two basketball seasons at Blue Ridge School and also earned varsity letters in track and field and soccer, because the school required students to play a sport each season.[1][7] As a senior in basketball, he averaged 12 points, eight rebounds, and four blocks per game while leading his team to the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) Division II state title and a Virginia Independent Conference (VIC) championship. Diakite was named second-team All-VIC in soccer in 2014–15, and he won back-to-back VIC high jump titles.[1] In basketball, he was a consensus four-star recruit and the top prospect in the state of Virginia. On August 4, 2015, Diakite committed to play for Virginia, turning down offers from several other NCAA Division I programs, including Baylor, USC, and Washington.[8][9]

Yeah he is from a country that never had an NBA player and he was basically totally unknown if this guy didn't take him under his wing.

He's been mostly overlooked, but just kept working on his game. Not a huge surprise a stretch big figures it out in year 3

I like Diakite, but I'm not sure his ball handling is what we want at the 3.

That said, dude is perfect at the 4 / small ball 5, and has been a godsend as a stopgap while we're hurting for depth.

I agree in a typical lineup, but with Mitchell and Garland on the floor ball handling from the 3 is less of a concern. If he can knock down the obligatory corner 3, I think he could be a great asset. Defensively he seems to have the lateral quickness and physicality to move between 3-4.

Somebody said it up above… he looks like he belongs. That’s step 1.

I like him a lot in either relief of Mobley, or besides Mobley as the 4. He definitely fits this squad.
