Minor League Game Thread 5/1-5/7

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not arguing against a Cantillo promotion, but I ask the following questions:
1) Who back-fills the spot in the Akron rotation?
2) Does his move up hurt Akron's chances at a post-season spot??

In a perfect world all 4 full season minor league clubs will make it to the post-season & that provides more development opportunities for all the players on the team, not just a select few.

If Cantillo moves up then it's Dion replacing him... I think we all want to see what Dion can do since he's been sincerely dominating A ball so far... My only question on Dion is his size otherwise...

Joey Cantillo with an impressive performance so far.

3IP 1H 0R/0ER 2BB 8K 51pitches 29 strikes

Akron leads 1-0 on a solo homer from Aaron Bracho who seems to have found a bit of a power-stroke but not much else.

No one is hitting at Akron btw...

I am a big fan of Will Dion but I doubt he moves up at this point.
The club was using "Little Kershaw" in a piggy-back role to start the year and just moved him into a regular rotation.

I suspect they want him to stretch out a little more before moving him up. I could see a 6-1-23 promotion but not a 5-8-23 promotion.

Organizational soldier Chris Roller on his way to a career night for the Clippers. 2-2 with 2 homers... The 1st was a grand salami... 2-2 2R 2HR 6RBI.

That's fair! I am not going to disagree there, but then who would be the best one to promote you think?

He's like, you promoted Williams over me... That was a mistake you big wigs...
Cantillo (counting this season) has roughly a half season in AA.
Considering how little he has pitched in game conditions over the past few years I want him throwing all season..

Personally I would switch him over to the back half of a piggy-back role & leave him in AA until there is a bullpen need in CLE later this year..

I would LOVE to see both Cantillo & a healthy Cody Morris as weapon options in the pen for Tito later this year..

"Hey opponent deal with these arms as middle relief/ shutdown options while my team & its offense get on track to rally & win late... AGAIN!"

I am not against that idea at all...

Though maybe its better to piggyback at AAA since the AAA guys are at least scoring lol Akron is pitching not hitting at the moment.

And with that Joey Cantillo's day is done...

A stellar outing: 5IP 1H 0R/0ER 2BB 13K.

77 pitches 46 strikes. Zach Hart takes over..

Who the hell is Cantillo?

Where are these guys coming from and what do we feed them in the minors? Sheesh.

Cantillo was the left hander we acquired in the Clevinger trade to the Padres...

He's honestly the left handed version of Morris in a sense... Great stuff but hasn't been able to stay healthy. If he can stay healthy, his worst case scenario is a high leverage RP...
