After the All-Star break we are back in action...

Can Pries keep his hitting streak going!?

Plesac is washed up...

Noel is the offense at AAA today...

Carver didn't look good at AA...

Johnathan Rodriguez is saying he's ready for AAA...

DeLauter, Hajjar and Davenport delivered for the Captains...

Zarate is leading the charge ar Lynchburg!

In the ACL, the returning Allan Hernandez only goes 0.2 innings before getting pulled.. He had given up a 2 run homer, but that's an early exit I think, guess we'll find out soon enough...

Some good news, Jackson Humphries is looking pretty good since debuting. Another strong performance tonight, but struggled a bit at the end.
3.2IP 1H 1R/1ER 3BB 7K...

On the year, the very soon to be 19 year old lefty has struck 35 batters in 22.2 innings. Keeping an eye on this guy.

Akron

Juan Brito having a good night. Likely to finish the night a triple short of the cycle, 3-5 with 2R 2RBI 2SB
Johnathan Rodriguez with a solid performance as well 2-5 with a double his 15th homer and 3 RBIs.

I wonder how long J. Rodriguez is going to stay at AA...

You can even make a case for Brito I would think.

Hard to see J.Rod getting pushed up until/unless movement happens in Cbus.

Not being on the roster compared to the guys already there hurts him IMO, but he should be there as soon as possible.

I have a hunch we will see movement at the trade deadline...

Brito stole 3rd and home.

Plus a homer and a double and a single.

Pretty fair nights work.

He has owned every level he has played at offensively, and is already on the clock.

He has played 35 games at both stops this year, and should be in Columbus soon. He will only have two options left after this season, and you dont want his first look in MLB to be in his last option year.

Let's trade Brito before he loses value like everyone else
:chuckle:
I know you're joking, but how do we envision Brito being used? I haven't heard of him playing any OF so I'm thinking the plan is to continue to use him as a 2B. That seems like a clusterfuck with Rocchio, Freeman, Gimenez and Arias. Add Martinez to that group should he take off again.

Don't mistake this as me having any inclination of moving him at this time. He looks like the type of hitter that I covet and that we cannot afford to sign in FA. Maybe we're looking at dealing Gimenez? :chuckle:

Yes, being a little sarcastic as you know why. And, when we made the trades for Brito and Carver, I did mention how they seemed to be fillers that were not positional needs (Carver in with a bunch of 2021 pitchers needing rule 5 after next year and Brito being MIF that we started option clock on). Yet, I am also a proponent of keeping assets tucked away for that trade for a final piece to WS like we did with Miller and tried with LuCroy. Not in favor of trading now (even for your AAA pitcher) as our window is only opened a crack. But, in the next year or two, Brito/Martinez can be a headliner in trade once we shuffle through all our pieces to this puzzle to see what is missing at that time.

Does Espino come back strong by mid-year next year? Is Cantillo as good as Bimbo says and just needs more development time to be considered a Big 4 with Williams, Bibee and Espino? Is Rocchio our next All-Star caliber SS? Is Bo the catcher like last night and last few weeks????. A lot of what ifs still. Time to just hold onto appreciating assets (like stocks - some will gain a lot of value and some will lose value - but overall time value of money and being patient pays off) and try to shuffle pieces to see what we have internally. I agree we should have traded Bieber at BOY (for better pitcher than Curry and bat). We should have moved on from Rosario to see Arias/Freeman -- think Freeman is better of 2. Also it was to see Breenan/Oscar for the whole year. There was a lot of things to do this year, winning WS wasn't one of them (unless you beliefed in magic genies and pots of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Agree with almost everything you say here Pete. If we're looking back, I was for finding our future SS this year. I don't care if it was Arias, Rocchio or Gimenez. I didn't like our OF set up, especially after the only possible power supply was rightfully sent to Columbus. I could see a lot of turnover in the rotation coming. Knowing that I wanted to capitalize on a good amount of value that they had to avoid the risk. At least with guys that aren't near FA you have time to reestablish/build value should they get hurt or falter.

At this time, I'm not even considering dealing Brito. I like a well rounded hitter as I've said numerous times, and Brito looks to be that. I'm dealing any of Arias, Freeman or even Gimenez before I deal Brito. The way he is hitting the ball and demonstrating a mature approach you'd have to show me that he can't hit ML pitching right now. Otherwise we'll just have to agree to disagree.

We are paying the price for hanging on to Rosario. I could see a future, not too far away, with Brito at 2B and Gimenez at SS. What does that mean for Rocchio and the rest of the MIF group?
Well, we could put them on the market now and see what you can get. They are good players. Most will be pretty good MLB players. But you can't play them all.
I felt all along we should be preparing for 2024.

2023 - Arias/Freeman trial -- Arias struggled/failed. Freeman showed some promise ... yet Rosario locked both out from winning a position long-term. Freeman also got screwed because he was going to play RF at AAA when he got his last call-up so Tito now is worried about even trying him there without AAA experience (to avoid Rosario OF flop experience again). Arias at least played there in AAA.
2024 - Rocchio trial year at SS (try to keep Gimenez at 2nd).
2025 - Winner of Brito/Martinez battle will get a chance at 2nd if Rocchio flops (shift Gimenez to SS). Yet, if Rocchio and Gimenez are playing top-7 at their positions, they are not going to trade either when they held onto $100 million FA Rosario. Brito and Martinez may have to sub Ramirez at 3B (as he ages and needs a bit more rest) and be super-utility (play 4-5 days a week and DH a day or two) or pick up OF glove or be traded for SP. Sorry.
