Minor League game thread 7/14-7/16

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm so not worried about the MIF situation right now. In fact, having so much quality depth makes it a non-issue for me when Rosario departs. Hell, I want the SP and OF to be in the exact same predicament that the MIF is in. So many options that we're wondering how in the hell they'll all get a chance.

He has played well. So has Arias for stretches. Not the point I am trying to make.

Neither of them, or Rocchio, are going to get enough chances this year where you are entering the 2024 season going this guy is the favorite for the position. Unless something really strange happens, its not happening this year.

Freeman is playing well, but he isn't going to play enough where you can make decisions off of it. Arias has played well when given a consistent role and at bats and has handled RHP well, something that can be developed off of as an everyday player as we are seeing with Josh Naylor this season, but not enough where you can make decisions off of it.

It's going to be a "go win the job" thing in Spring, and if I had to guess at the moment should everyone still be on the roster this time next spring Arias will get first crack at it, thanks in large part to his options status. But again, that's if all of these guys are still in the organization come spring.

If Brito hits enough we'll find a place for him to play. Same thing with Angel Martinez.
Glad to have you and your insight back!

how does the org view Amed in this situation? The negatives to having Amed have been well documented on this board but I’m wondering if anyone in the org shares the same general sentiment the board has?

Gimenez isn't moving to SS in the middle of a season.

Barring an unforeseen change too, that ship is about to sail fully away like Jose moving back to 2B before it.

None of these guys are going to be handed the starting MIF spot opposite of Gimenez for 2024, should they still be on the roster. They certainly aren't going to be handed it in 2023.
Gimi is an all star and gold glove 2B.. why move him anywhere?.. If it aint broke...

I am not against the idea of him moving to SS if that's the best lineup for the team... That being stated, I can see why you wouldn't move his position...

Arias should be playing the left side of the infield and making a lot of plate appearances somewhere. He shouldn't be rotting on a bench. He's a big, strong-armed defender with good pop and I hate to see him atrophy.
What's up with his God awful weakness vs. lefties anyway?

It's weird because we have someone with a weakness vs. righties on the left side of the infield and yet...

Playing Rosario everyday is hurting the development of several young players that actually have a chance to be apart of the future.

Don’t even get people started on Straw. Let’s be real this division is the worst in professional sports ( historically bad ) and you still struggle to be 500 . It’s not a serious World Series contending team yet they refuse to allow Freeman or Arias to get any regular playing time . This could be a pivotal point of their development in thier young career and they are not getting a chance to grow .It’s malpractice .

So.. in your opinion..it's okay to move him and it's okay not to move him.. thanks for that clarification....

I think people need to understand "the org" isn't one person.

There are likely lots of people who want to see options other than Amed starting at SS.

I just believe in two things.
  1. Tito isn't one of them
  2. The front office isn't going to tell Tito what he has to do with lineups and playing time

I get both sides of the coin is all I am saying. If I was up to me, I'd have Gimenez at SS and Freeman at 2B and Rosario off the team... I think that gives us a better chance to win, on paper, in 23...

Ethan Hankins had what I believe to be his best outing of 2023 today in game one of Lake County's doubleheader.

2IP 1H 1R/1ER 1BB 5K 0HR 38 pitches 26 strikes.
baby steps... When drafted.. it was clear he was loaded with talent.. Time and experience will reveal that talent.... reveal, indeed..

Hankins is R5 eligible after this season. I really hope there are some more baby steps taken s the FO can make a solid decision on protecting him (or not)..

At this rate, I doubt he gets protected...
