Minor League Games - 2024

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Its now 41Ks in 20.2 innings. 1 ER allowed.

Who can tell me about this guy? Is he a star in the making or a low A finesse guy getting by on smoke and mirrors?
There is a lot to like about this kid.. most importantly, he competes.. He was a fat body with interesting spin and velo as a senior in High School.. but, nothing that would say.. this is a major league arm.. He kicked around at a community college and at least one other program but, didn't really put it together until after the 2022 season when being stout was aided by bringing up his velo (sitting 91 - 93; touching above that) on his FB into the low 90's with IVD to an elite level.. Couple that with two breaking pitches.. all that he commands and controls.. and this is a pitcher.. a real pitcher.. He doesn't look like it.. but he's an athlete.. and left handed..

He's fun to watch as he mows down opponents.. striking out guys at nearly a 50 % rate.. Amazing numbers.. better person..

Feels like they have to get him up to High A pretty quickly. He is just dominating at Lynchburg. Love to see him up to Double A late in the year just to see if his stuff plays.

It also depends on the MLB health and AAA production...

I don't see him getting to AA, may be a bit too soon for that in 24, but they do have a lot of 21 draftees they have to decide on, so it's very possible between that and injuries you could see a college kid like Tugboat, get the AA promotion...

The move here I think would be Tugboat pushing Messick/someone up to AA and docking in their old spot as the new Lake County Captain.

If he somehow still keeps dominating after 5+ starts, then damn. He can motor on up to Akron as far as I'm concerned.

Clipper game free to watch tonight.

Cairo still red hot for Akron with a double, homer, walk and stolen base. Avg .400/OPS 1.145. Bracho looks like he maybe heating up too. Jackson Humphries went 3 innings for Lynchburg giving up 1 hit 0BB and 4Ks on a miniscule 34 pitches - 24strikes.

Alex Mooney just hit his 5th homer of the season in his first at bat of the game, a 3 run job and has a current line of .327 AVG and 1.038 OPS. He is also playing left field tonight.

Velazquez has smacked a double for Lynchburg.

Seems to be able to command the FB very well. But. Some were sub 90 miles per hour. IMO it's likely he will eventually hit a wall, but with his resemblance to the Kool aid man... Maybe he can bust right on through.
Once he learns to get some weight behind the ball he'll be hitting 104

Some big time performances for the Lake County crew today.

CJ Kayfus 3-5 with a double, homer, one run and 4 RBI. <--- Avg. .370 OPS 1.053
Alex Mooney 5-5 with 3 doubles, 3 runs, 1SB and 1 RBI. <--- Avg. .362 OPS 1.100
Furman with 2 hits and 2 runs
Fox with 2 hits and 2 runs
Collado 2 hits and 1 RBI <--- Avg. .361 OPS 1.021
Zarate had a couple hits a SB and a RBI.

Denholm pitched well, 6 innings, 4H 1R/1ER 1BB 8K 1HR 1HBP 88 pitches 60 strikes.

Also sorry if I missed it, but I see Ingle has been sitting for a few games, any word why?

I realize we (as fans) want to see certain players pushed up a level to challenge them, but I question who/ what is available to take the spot left behind.
If Tugboat gets the bump to High A, who is taking his spot at Lynchburg (on the pitching staff & in the rotation)??

That's the thing, the level below Lynchburg hasn't started, so we don't even know who is ready to pitch in a sense...

We did lose Kent, Enright and Nikhazy to injuries so seeing a movement isn't unreasonable...

I feel Tugboat will get High A starts but I think that will be after Arizona/Rookie ball starts...

How you gonna keep him down on the farm,,,
