MLB 2024 Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's very clear you're not aware of the affect of what a motion can & will do for a pitcher's command.. Hagen is good pitcher.. he's not a great pitcher.. there's a difference.. Hagen's motion has the ball barely above his shoulder plane at extension. that's below 3/4 or slightly above sidewinder.. LOOK AT SOME FILM.. He struggles to get on top of the ball for his cutter or slider or whatever he calls it.. Add a crossfire approach and you're looking at command issues all day long.. Let someone else make a mistake and draft this guy that early.. The Guardians won't..

Brecht is a 2-48 - 4-113 guy.. His place being drafted belies his true talent.. this is a guy who has the kind of repertoire (two plus-plus weapons) and make up to be a back of the pen assassin at the highest levels of baseball.. If you want to know where I'd put a guy mentioned.. you should ask.. not assume..

Thoughts?
I just don't think what you're seeing on whatever you're watching is accurate.

Brecht ceiling is 5th round right now. 32 walks in 40 IP and an era of almost 5 in the big 10 because he can't throw strikes isn't going to be seen as a good thing. You're not as hard on the other pitchers accuracy as you are smith's, and no Smith doesn't thrown sidewinder lol

I see you have difficulty in comprehension as well. I don't have a favorite to be honest and a lot can change between now and draft day.

No, the numbers don't actually tell you "everything we want to know", but it's your story so don't let me get in the way of it.

I'm not "propping" Condon up. I simply countered all the final decisions that Bazzana is the pipick.

My comprehension is fantastic, don't question it again.

Yes, the numbers do tell you everything you need to know. And yes you are propping Condon up.

Those are undisputable facts.

Guys, you need to read this. We also need to draft his pal later. Too good a story to pass up

I'll beat my dead horse.

We are likely to see the best Australian baseball players EVER to start breaking into the Major League. There is value here.... How much? IDK,

Curtis Mead - playing for Tampa and a top 50-60 prospect.
Travis Bazzana - is probably the most famous baseball player in NZ and Australia already. If he hits All-Star/MVP type status - he will be HUGE.
A couple more guys in college and some commits to major college baseball programs...

Baseball in Australia is about to see it's biggest popularity strike ever... Coincidently, Australia's biggest star/most notable alumnus before Bazzana was also a second baseman and he managed and played for the Cleveland Spiders in 1899.

From Wikipedia: He was, as a player, arguably the best hitter on the Spiders team that he managed, which is considered to have been the worst team in major league history. His record as a manager: 23-132 good for a Winning% of .148

Draft Bazzana and change name to the Cleveland Aussies or Koalas?

Cleveland Ozzies. Gotta tie in that Rock Hall....

I just think we end up way more disappointed with Condon than we do Bazzana. Bazzanas stats just translate better historically

I’m nowhere near an expert on the MLB draft so I could just be off on this, but why is Bazzana viewed as a level below Crews and Langford as a hitting prospect?

In his final season he’s outperforming both of theirs and seems to have close to an ideal hit tool combined with plate discipline. Combine that with his elite bat speed and the a ton of pull side power, aren’t we talking about a pretty much elite hitting prospect? Combine that with his track record of consistent excellence at all stops, including cape cod league mvp.

Is the hesitance just a lack of size and power projection? Because his makeup seems to me of someone in the Jose Ramirez mold where he’ll always outperform the raw power stat cast metrics because he has such an advanced feel at the plate and can ambush mistake pitches with pulled fly balls.

As an aside, he seems like the built-in-a-lab Guardians prototype: left-handed, analytically focused, contact-focused with juice, by all accounts an excellent teammate and worker, enough athleticism to play multiple positions. I bet the coaches in the organization are salivating at the chance to work with him.

If he was from NZ we could be the Cleveland Haka

You have to remember this, CDav has been wanting a right handed bopper for a long time... He sees what he has been wanting in Condon... He's power over contact and Condon definitely has more power than Bazzana, while Bazzana probably has the best floor of the three... Condon and Montgomery will end up with slightly better upside... Though that difference isn't enough to really matter at the end of the day...

I think this is a fair assessment...

The question is Bazzana gonna have the HR pop?

I think if you get at least 20 home runs a year out of Bazzana you're happy with it, and there's quite a few guys who have come up through the league with Bazzanas build that are 25+ Home run guys. Whitt, Lindor, Albies, Jose..

If you only get 30 home runs a year out of Condon, are you walking away happy with that? I don't think so, because he's going to bring less value overall.

Think about comparing, who would you take in their primes. Jose Ramirez or Christian Walker. Think people get too excited about how many potential home runs a player could hit and forget really quickly about the Andy Martes, Matt LaPortas and Ryan Garkos.

I don't think Montgomery has more upside than Bazzana, between the 3 I think that's the guy that's having the mirage season. Something about his swing just seems off

Looking at the roster though, we have been pretty solid at producing heavy double hitters who add some random HRs...

We haven't been able to produce HR hitters who hit for a decent BA... We badly need a power hitting RH... Condon on paper should hit for decent average plus add that power we don't have hence why I think a lot of people want him. He adds an element that we don't have, at least on paper...

Now, I feel like we are for sure going with a bat number 1... I don't think we lose if we go with Bazzana, Condon or Montgomery... Now, Bazzana fits Guardians FOs MO for years, so my money would lean that way IF I was forced to bet, but I'd rather get a Condon since he adds something we don't have...
