MLB Trade Deadline thread!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
They must be hoping for an extension, otherwise I don't get it at all. Especially with Yan Gomes on board for 2023.

Can I ask why?
You just said, they plan on offering him the one year deal, him declining, and gobbling up a compensation pick. Shows the Cubs trust their scouting staff to find them a gem. They took the lottery ticket over either one good prospect or the Indians special of 3 quarters for a dollar deals.

We could have easily gotten more than that without mortgaging the future.

But this FO has sat on its hands for five years, because it over values prospects. The result is that we are always looking two years ahead.

At this time last year many on this forum were looking at 2023. Now the same ones are looking at 2024.

And last winter we got lucky when the R5 was canceled, or we probably would be watching OGonz and Cantillo playing for somebody else. We won't be that lucky again.

Meanwhile, the FO has handcuffed itself this year with no leeway on the 40 man, because close to a fourth of is made up of prospects that aren't MLB ready....and we have to protect a whole bunch next year that won't be ready.

And beyond that we are looking at a bunch of key personnel whose control is slip slipping away.

Wow. The Cubs are happy with a comp pick??? WE WOULD HAVE BEATEN THAT!!! Right?
Don’t they have to offer him a QO and hope he don’t except ? Or did that change ……..

Blue Jays land Whit Merrifield - for old farm hand Samad Taylor and more.

So he decided to get vaccinated? Otherwise, he cannot enter Canada.

Are you saying Cleveland doesn't? without being held to the letter of the comment.. yes.. he is..

The smartest moves by this team was always coming from within. ..but the moves were inadequate thereby making the smartest moves being made by ANYONE but the team that now doesn't want to "wink wink" compete...

Naylor > Maile is such a huge upgrade that it's not even funny. Agree..but it won't be fully true until the minor league season and minor league playoffs are done.. Only an emergency will see Bo Naylor > Maile.. The CleFO will do whatever it needs to reduce Naylor's premature exposure to ML pitchers for both receiving and hitting..

Same with Freeman/Arias > Clement this is a no brainer already.. sooner the better...

But maybe you wanted an open market rental 1B power bat and have Owen replace Clement's role. Owen and Clement both need to step it up or get gone.. FWIW..Owen is stepping up..

I wanted a good 7th-8th inning arm. We have them.. just need to wait for them to be healthy.. they will be before the time September starts...imho
The trolling / goal post moving comments are typical juvenile chat/forum debate strategy.. Lets see if any of the above comes true !

We're doing something good if we are oozing with possible rule 5 losses. Keep drafting/finding talent gents.

Only the Padres, Rays, and Dodgers ooze enough talent to have possible rule 5 losses.

The Guards wish they could find and develop talent, like many here think they can. It’s amazing they even win games at the MLB level. This kind of inaction is why they have the worst record in the AL over the last decade.

The buzzards have spoken, it must be true

MLBTradeRumors take on our deadline:

Cleveland: The Guardians are another team with a longstanding need at catcher, and it seemed like Cleveland was getting close to a deal for A’s backstop Sean Murphy — especially since the Guards were reportedly open to making a big move by offering one of their controllable starters. However, though the Guardians were said to be looking hard for pitching of their own and also flirted with the idea of an offer for Juan Soto, all of the talk resulted in a very quiet deadline.

Other than moving Sandy Leon to Minnesota, the Guardians didn’t make a single trade. Especially with so many other contenders fortifying their rosters, the Guards’ inaction was a risky move for a team in the thick of the AL Central and wild card races. Cleveland is counting on its internal mix to step up over the last two months, but if the Guardians fall short of the postseason, there will be some what-ifs asked about this deadline.

I found this front office interview very oft-putting, even condescending. “Couldn’t find that perfect fit.”

I read it as... He felt there wasn't a trade available that helped this team enough to make it. He wanted to keep the chemistry strong and he was going to hurt the chemistry if he just made a move to make a move... He had a few targets in mind and they didn't work and since they didn't he wasn't going to force a move.

Coach: I agree with you but he seemed to smuggly address the reporters or maybe I’m overly sensitive to admin. speak. BTW Coach, how did the hand surgery go? Glad to see you “typing” on the board.
