Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Sporting News has posted their 3 Round Mock.. and it could work very well for the Guardians..

Link: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/news/mlb-mock-draft-2023-3-round/t5giaqcsp2cobuwuzulllbju

The first three (3) picks are:

23. Cleveland Guardians
  • Nolan Schanuel, 1B/OF, Florida Atlantic
58. Cleveland Guardians
  • Alonzo Tredwell, RHP, UCLA
62. Cleveland Guardians
  • Myles Naylor, 3B, St. Joan of Arc (Ont.)

Guardians would be passing on Blake Mitchell C, Charlee Soto SP/RP, Alex Clemmey SP, Tanner Witt SP & Catchers Cole Carrigg and Dion Rose.. In this mock, Brayden Taylor is taken well before the Guardians make their first choice..

For the CLE 3rd round pick, the article lists:
93. Cleveland Guardians

  • Roman Martin, SS, Servite High (Calif.)

Frias absolutely, also Francisca, Benjamin, Antunez, D. Sharpe, Collado. Could make a case for Cairo and J. Burgos too
I had Antunez in there. Francisca I would have put in there but he’s so young - I put Chourio in even though he’s also extremely young, at least he’s a year older than Francisca. Benjamin I also considered.

In a way, I feel like I want to skip the high school players early (outside of maybe Naylor) in a sense. I feel like we haven't had much luck with high school players through the draft... I know that's me being silly, but I'd rather gamble at this time on a college power bat (if there is a legit one still available).

No comment/ insight.

I only added the 4th CLE pick (from the SI mock) to the post since @Gson had overlooked it in his post..

That's fair, but to me, what's been our record lately with early HS position players? I feel like we seem to do much better when we draft college players early that already fit the mold we like.

We also lack power in this organization from top to bottom... How many players at the current moment can hit 20+ HRs in the minors right now? A handful at best?

I'd rather personally right now go for college kids with power over a high school kid with more upside but a lower floor. I am not saying we do that for all spots, but if 1A is a high school and 1B is the college kid, I'd rather go college right now.

Wait, there's another Naylor brother? I didn't know that. We have GOT to draft him!

He's going to go in the 1st or 2nd round though via the national charts... So its hard to say, if he's worth getting that high...

@Tondo I appreciate all your insight in these threads. There aren't enough quality resources when it comes to the MLB draft or even organizational prospect breakdowns beyond a basic list.

So, if I can pick your brain--based on your expertise and knowledge of the Guardians farm system, where would you rank Slider? Does he get put on the 40 this winter to avoid Rule 5?

Tough call. Slider is unathletic, but otoh he's a RH 1B/DH bopper, exactly what the roster needs. He's old for his level, but very likeable around the clubhouse, I've heard, maybe Bimbo can confirm.
If he continues to perform, he's in that 40/40+ bucket. Maybe a late bloomer.

Somehow this became the 2023 draft thread…

Well the draft is kind of starting tomorrow lol

Plus the new updated list for prospects won't come out until after the draft...

Looking at the prospects, let's say the ones, who are up lose their prospect status...

My top prospects end up being...

Rocchio
Valera
Espino
DeLauter
A. Martinez
Brito
Campbell
Cantillo
Halpin
Chourio
Morris
Genao
Messick
Noel
Tena

I think I'll stick with those 15...

Then we have a whole bunch of guys, who all have similar FV values at the end of the day. Also we have some players like Zibin, who havent played yet... 22 Draft class of players including Lampe and Boyd (who we acquired after) who are playing their first years. Then a crew of pitchers who are likely relievers, in my mind, in due time, Burns, Dion, Stanley etc... A ball has whole bunch of similar aged players, like Antunez, Benjamin, Collado etc...

ACL group players that are making names so far are in the small sample sizes are...

OF Esteban Gonzalez -

1B/C Nelson Aranguran -

MIF Jeffrey Mercedes -

MIF Rafael Ramirez

Jackson Humphries has solid stats at ACL...
