NFL Off-Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah...is Stafford really much better than Goff? Certainly not that much better...

Yeah, Stafford is a better QB to be sure. And I think he'll have a fine season coming up.

But not so much better to as make the Rams the Super Bowl favorites next year which is what one would demand after surrendering so many assets like they did? No. Then again, the NFC is not that strong.

This is a bad deal for the Rams if they don't make it to the NFC Title Game. The Lions must be giddy.

Stafford must be ecstatic. He finally has some weapons. And a functional franchise behind him. And a defense.

I must say that I am pleased for him. I have always thought he was talented but stuck in a terrible situation.

He was far more loyal to Detroit than anyone should have been.

I wish him luck and I guess we'll see what he's really made of now.

The extra compensation from the Rams was for Detroit to take on Goff’s contract. Make no mistake about that.

Seems like a slight overpay from the Rams’ perspective...but I think they’re a much better team today than they were yesterday.

The only real issue for the Rams is the huge amount of dead money they're looking at with the salary cap going down.

They're going to have over 30M in dead cap in 2021 with the cap set to drop by more than 10% so it seems unlikely they'll be able to add much to their roster in free agency.

But their defense should be very good again and Stafford is better than Goff. How much better remains to be seen. If he's a lot better, they seem like they'd have a very real chance to win the NFC next year so it's hard to argue the move.

Good for Matt. It’s a steep price, but we all know the window is short to win. Rams going ALL IN. Love it

Hope we do the same.
Gladly trade 3/4 years of real contention for 5/6 of mediocrity.

Wait what the actual fuck... Goff, 2 first rounders and a third for a 33 year old Matt Stafford????
The Rams have a defense that might be the best in the NFL and the (probably) best overall player in the NFL. They're in their contending window. This is a very serious indictment on Jared Goff to give up that much. It's also a very strong endorsement of good/how wasted they believe Matthew Stafford is/was and to do this they must believe this will put them in position to win the Super Bowl next season and the next couple after that.

Stafford is also a terrible fit for what McVay does. Just absolutely atrocious.

I do think it's fair to ask if Rams defense is going to be as dominant without Brandon Staley at DC and Joe Barry at LB/AHC.

They *should* be fine because they're retaining most of their best defensive players, but Staley's scheme was pretty unique.

I've watched a lot of Stafford. He's not worth what he was traded for. To me this was a sideways move that you mortgaged your future on. Stafford never shows up when it counts.

And you don't want to spend two first round picks to find out if he can win when it matters.

That Goff contract is just terrible though. I imagine both first round picks are compensation for mostly that.

Even if Stafford turns out to not be the QB capable of leading them to a Super Bowl victory, I still give the Rams kudos for recognizing that Goff DEFINITELY wasn't the guy and making an aggressive move to try and get better at the most important position in sports.
