NFL Off-Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Stafford and McVey are going to absolutely murder it.

Are we knocking Stafford because of his perceived "inability to win big games," or is that a symptom of playing on one of the worst franchises in sports which has ruined a few HoF careers?

Stafford has a HoF trajectory, I think some are underestimating what it will mean to be placed into a ready-made NFL system that quite honestly plays pretty well into his skill set.

That said, the Rams run the immense risk of having late first round picks turn into high first rounders with a catastrophic season, or injury.

Stafford will fit well with McVey because McVey has wanted to be a big time passing team for a long time but couldn't do much with Goff. Stafford can make every throw and isn't afraid like Goff has shown since the SB.

That being said, the Rams have no 1st round pick until 2023 and haven't had one since Goff. They were so desperate and now they have a 33 year old QB, no cap space and they are going to lose some pieces too. Not to mention they are probably the 3rd best team in the NFC West? And if the Cardinals make a leap this year, then they are maybe the worst?

Idk, I think Sneed is a terrible GM and the Rams basically have to win the SB this year or it's going to be a real, real bad trade.

They have been contenders 3 out of the last 4 seasons without a 1st round pick. I think they'll be alright.

Even if Stafford turns out to not be the QB capable of leading them to a Super Bowl victory, I still give the Rams kudos for recognizing that Goff DEFINITELY wasn't the guy and making an aggressive move to try and get better at the most important position in sports.
There's another team I can think of that needs to realize the same thing and go get the top 3 QB that is out there to be had.

I think you are probably right, they do great together. However, its going to be a referendum on both. We find out imo if McVey is worth his salt or was a one trick pony. I lean far more towards the prior with you, I think they do well.

Define contenders?

They made the SB once and have been toothless nearly every other year.

They are behind the Bucs and Green Bay by quite a bit, and I still would take a healthy 49ers and Seahawks over them.

Agreed. Their window for success is literally 1-2 years. According to Spotrac, they are currently $35 mill over the salary cap, so they’re going to have to already dump some guys that are likely valuable just to get under the cap.

Looking at their salary numbers for 2022, they have 28 guys under contract and currently only have $41 mill in projected cap space with no 1st round picks. I don’t know how this is sustainable at all. They’re basically Super Bowl or bust in 2021 and 2022, then they might have to blow up the team after that if they can’t get it done.

They have $120 mill tied up in Stafford, Donald, Kupp, Brockers, Ramsey, Woods, and Whitworth. The other 21 players under contract only account for $47 million. I’m not sure who they can actually afford to get rid of out of that group of 7 players. Brockers would seem to be the most likely I guess.

Damn, always liked Marty and his approach to the game.

Not to highjack the thread, but Alzheimers is truly one of the most horrible and gut-wrenching diseases. My grandma had it, and it was just this slow steady decline. She slowly started forgetting family members to the point where my mom, who visited her every single day, became "the nice lady who stops by to see me." She lived well into her 90's and even up until the last year or so she was in great physical health. Her mind was just gone. I hope that no one has to go through that. I can't explain how hard it is to watch it happen.

Same here. My grandma passed about 5 years ago. She had it and lived her whole life in Erie, Pa. until about 3 years prior.
Dad moved her down to FL with them.
She forgot everything and everyone.

Both my grandmothers, and 1 of my grandfathers had it (though he passed when i was 12). Holy shit is it terrible. Im terrified of my parents getting it. Walking in a door, seeing someones face light up, and then the realization they have no idea who you are.. and you saw them yesterday. Every couple of years it sounds like they make a break through, but it never seems to come to fruition.

shit.... Hospice.... AND Alzheimers?! The guy I always thought had the worst breaks as a coach ended up with the worst breaks in life. This is very, very sad. One of the best post-Brown Browns coaches and I liked his work with the Chargers too.
