I get that to a degree, but as we’ve seen in years past, projecting future QB classes is a total crap shoot. My theory on Detroit is that they can sell Goff as a franchise QB and even if he sucks, it buys them a year or two to try and figure out the qb stuff behind the scenes. If he does suck, they probably will be picking in the top 10 plus will have the rams picks to package if they need to move up.
However, we’re sitting in what looks to be one of the best QB drafts in past 10 years or so. Even if they stood patsy #7 & #8, they should’ve had a shot at one of the top guys and would’ve been able to add another elite player in the process.
If Goff flops, didn’t they just waste a couple seasons and a bunch of money that they could’ve spent on other players to build the team?
I just think it’s foolish to believe you’re going to have a better shot at drafting a franchise QB two years down the road when you could likely get one this year. Also, if Goff couldn’t get it done in a better situation with the Rams, I don’t know why they’d believe he can suddenly be a franchise guy whit a shittier team.
While I’m not a huge fan of Wentz, he was at least playing like an MVP at one point in his career prior to getting injured. Goff had one of the best defenses in the league and had some really good talent on offense and continually flopped when it mattered.
