Yall want the man to play through a torn ACL now???

He played the entire year last year with a sports hernia without saying a word and put up 1000yds receiving through a dumpster fire of a season. I hope he gets traded for *his* sake, cause many of yall don't deserve nice things.

Wtf are you talking about.

Not one person ever said he should play through a torn ACL. Not one.

It’s totally fair. If Beckham gets super star money and has super star attitude, he gets the super star scrutiny when he doesn’t have super star production. That’s just simple super star math!! Landry earns a good pay check but does’t bring the ‘tude and plays through injuries like a gladiator. That earns him the benefit of the doubt. The other guys on the WR squad are nice but seem very replaceable.

While there were several different factors that caused Baker’s sophomore slump, I can’t rule out that OBJ wasn’t one of them becuase the slump started when OBJ came in. And it’s possible that Baker’s improvement this season would have happened if OBJ had not been injured but what else explains the sudden the sudden turn arround? It wasn’t a slow improvement. It happenend suddenly. It’s not like the offensive line suddenly got better or Nick Chubb came back from an injury. Baker should have looked worse after losing his #1 reciever, but the exact opposite happened. Maybe Mayfield just had a “I gotta man up” moment that made everything click . Maybe I guess. Dont know how to collect data on that. Right now, the data really suggests that Baker and OBJ don’t jive. We have seen a lot of those two underperforming together. Until we see OBJ and Baker play at a high level on the field, its fair to say that they might not be good for each other.
It’s a criticism that can’t be disproven for now. I think it’s correlation mistaken for causation, at least going forward. That is to say that OBJ going down helped other WR develop, helped Baker spread the ball, and perhaps helped coaches run the offense in a more unbiased way, but when OBJ returns, I still see that as a net positive, and in fact it might be exactly what we need to take it to the next level.
Lee brings up strong points that the $ could be re-allocated to the defense, but I don’t think that we want to sell low on OBJ. I think we draft D and see what happens but can’t see OBJ cut or traded for scraps. Our offense is extremely talented at this point when fully healthy. Very impressed with the quality of the depth too.
if either Delpit or Greedy are good players when healthy, that’s a nice bump in talent too. Seems to me we could use a monster DT more than anything. That might be the FA play because that person will have grown man strength.

The bottom line is that for whatever reasons, he hasn't been worth the money he's gotten paid. And considering how well we have done without him, he's clearly not essential to this team's offensive success. It's possible he'd be the cherry on top of an already blistering offense, but I think that's an inefficient use of resources.

So I'm fine with us not "deserving" him, and would rather "deserve" a better return for our $14M/year in cap space.

Did you not read the post I quoted praising others for "playing through injuries like a gladiator," or you just want to puff out your chest and talk? Since coming to the Browns, OBJ has not played because of a torn ACL, and thats it.

At the very least I think OBJ had a negative psychological influence on Mayfield; I guess I couldn’t blame OBJ for that initially but we don’t know sideline or locker room dialogue in which Beckham is pressuring him for targets etc. I don’t know.

Higgins getting increased snaps seems to have a positive influence also due to being a psychological savant.

He's a diva WR who has underperformed.

In a way, "blame" is irrelevant. If there is a lack of synergy between the two, then that's all that really matters. Whose fault it is doesn't matter. Baker is the more valuable player, so you keep.him even if it is his "fault".

Odell makes this running game go from great to all time great in a second. Opposing defenses will never be able to pack 8 in the box, you'd rarely wanna run a base 4-3 or 3-4 defense sometimes if Baker is cooking. It's just all on Odell to be a team player and put individual numbers behind him, thats always my one concern because Baker feeds into that noise and it disrupts everything.

I just don't understand all the hate Odell gets from Browns fans. He gets blamed for the offense not clicking but the fact is the offense had problems because Kitchens didn't know how to run things. Then Stefanski had to put things together with Zoom meetings and it pretty much took everyone half of a season to get dialed in. If Beckham wasn't hurt he'd be nothing BUT an asset with all the other pieces coming together, and my assumption is that next year he'll be another weapon for the offense that has started to grow together under this head coach.

False. We lead the league in rushing with or without O'dell. There's about zero difference in yardage per game from when he went down to now.

It's amazing how much people love to defend this guy even though we're just clearly better without him.

Oh boy, we don't have a vertical threat once so ever. The better teams will exploit that and make Baker beat them vertically. Browns can beat you in a few ways, just stop the run, play man to man and make a possession WR like Higgins beat you deep, or Jarvis who's never been known to beat somebody vertically. It's going to be hard to run the ball in the playoffs, teams are smart. Browns having a vertical threat makes them complete.

Peoples Jones isn't a vertical threat?

And the offensive line did get better btw. Immensely so in fact. Now we have two Pro Bowl Caliber Guards. And our tackle slots are filled by guys who play at a professional level or a good bit above in the case of Conklin. Tretter has been healthy beyond the start of the season.

Baker has greatly improved since he has become fully healthy ~wk 10. He took a serious shot and had either bruised or cracked ribs that some like to just gloss over when diacussing his emmergence since OBJ injury/Bye Week. This Browns regime does not go into immense detail regarding injuries which is very heady from a scheming and opposition psychological aspect.

But we could beat this dead horse until it freezes. Or we could enjoy this wild ride while it's still alive!
