Official CLE Midseason Prospect Rankings

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It is extremely hard. Then you have anomalous/non-prospect types like Trenton Brooks and Alex Call. I do not think Alex Call is a prospect but there is no denying his improvement at the plate/plate discipline has been monumental.

In 2019 in AA in 81 games 5HRs 5SB 5CS 22BB and 93K - ouch
In 2021 in AA/AAA in 60 games 10HRs 13SB 3CS 28BB and 34K - HUGE difference.

Since promotion to AAA 5HRs in 17 games, 7BB and 8K

Would be fascinated to learn what alien invaded his body during the pandemic. That drop in strikeouts is beyond insane give the years before it. Agree that his prospect status is unlikely, but something clicked and it might be fun to give him 45 days in the majors just to see how far he can extend it.

The more info the better. I've only been able to go off stats.

@BimboColesHair Can give a better evaluation than me...

In my mind, I see more of a Carlos Correa type, a bigger SS with good power... I don't think he will ever have above a .260ish batting average, but should always have a good slg%. Needs to work on his patience at the plate as well...Fielding wise, he has potential to be close to if not a GG, SS... But he is one of a few we have currently that can be, so he could be moved from SS (3B or RF in my mind)

Good list Gson. I'd have Arias in my top 3 somewhere though. I'd probably go Espino, Arias, and then Freeman. Nolan Jones might not even be in my top 10. No matter how we list them, it's a damn good list IMO.

Gotta ask - where does Palacios shake out in your mind?

But what about this guy,,,,

Jhonkensy Noel, 3B/1B, Indians
Low-A Lynchburg (East)

71 PA: .358/.380/.672 (182 OPS+), 5 HR (279 SB+), 0 SB

Hit in the hand by a pitch on May 23, Noel did not play the final week in May, but what he had done in the preceding three weeks marked him as an emerging prospect. The physical righthanded hitter has good bat speed and a short swing that he used to strike almost as many extra-base hits (11) as he had strikeouts (12). He has incredible raw power that he will increasingly access as refines his plate approach with experience. Age: 19

I've like Richie Palacios since he was signed.. top 15.. easily.. ahead of Bracho Burns, Wolf and others.. but not better than Torres.. at least not yet..

Most bullish I’ve seen anyone on Morris by far. I always like your analysis. So tell me, what are you seeing?

1. George Valera is, finally, the overwhelming # 1 prospect in an otherwise deep farm system. Valera brings all five tools to the table and then some. He's Acuna-esque in many ways..

2. Daniel Espino is perhaps the best/most advance pitching talent the Indians have drafted and developed in the past three decades.. Pure stuff.. command.. control and, most of all, body/type/health are all hallmarks of this young man's present.. and future

3. Angel Martinez can best be described as the quintissential shortstop talent.. soft hands.. cat quickness.. strong accurate arm.. batting eye that is unsurpassed and an exceptional baseball IQ.. think Omar "glover" & "dat bat doood" Phillips

4. Tyler Freeman is the best middle infield prospect that has been drafted and developed in the last decade. Baseball acumen and just sheer bat to ball skills alone will get him to the ML's and allow him to be successful. He has a good, not great arm..otherwise, he'd be our # 1.

5. Nolan Jones is a bat first, bat second, corner fielder. He can and will play some hot corner.. some 1B and both corner OF spots. He controls the strike zone as well as anyone the Indians have drafted & developed making him an OBP machine.. if he can learn to recognize pitches in the zone a little better..he'd surpass Tyler Freeman as the Indians # 1. As it is now, top five is pretty darn good.

6. Gabriel Arias is the gem in the Padres/Clevinger deal. The defense is better than advertised.. and the offense is approaching the same level of competence. This is a ML starter.. perhaps at SS.. if not, 3B.. but clearly a starter..

7. Brayan Rocchio is a 20 year old at AA ball.. every part of his game, save for power, is advanced and continues to improve against guys that are two to four years older than him. A team of nine Rocchios would win the division title ever year..

8. Bo Naylor was drafted by the tribe to be that bat first catcher.. Bo is a catcher.. not a hitter who also catches.. Every skill you want in a catcher is part of Bo Naylor's tool box. He has VERY quick feet.. his set and throw is superb and his blocking instincts are cat-quick and effective. Experience calling gamea may be the only area of significantly needed improvement to be a ML regular..and that takes time..

9. Cody Morris may have some RP risk.. but has upped everything about his game that can be upped.. he has shortened his delivery to allow it to be repeatable.. his velo has gone up, his spin rate is as good or better than ever and his change up has become a weapon. In short, he's a three pitch mix, hard throwing hound that could surprise even the deepest thinker in our wigwam..

10.Ethan Hankins is currectly recovering from TJ.. I just couldn't leave him off the top 10.. When healthy, he'd knock everyone including Nolan Jones down a notch..

Thoughts?..
