Official CLE Midseason Prospect Rankings

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
4. Tyler Freeman is the best middle infield prospect that has been drafted and developed in the last decade. Baseball acumen and just sheer bat to ball skills alone will get him to the ML's and allow him to be successful. He has a good, not great arm..otherwise, he'd be our # 1.
Does that include Francisco Lindor, drafted ten years ago?

Hmmm.. Jones straying outside of the top three is more a statement that Valera and Espino and Martinez are improving or have a more defined upward trajectory than a slight against Jones.. I think you can agree with that...

Of course.

I’ve been as high on Martinez as anyone on this board and he still isn’t a better prospect, at this moment, than Jones.

At the same age and at the same level Jones out performed Martinez across the board.

It’s the trap of projection vs production. We’ve seen Jones produce in low A, A, High A, and AA at a high level. We’ve yet to see it from Valera and Martinez if they can carry that up the ladder that far like Jones already has, but we can project what they may do.

This is a case of Jones being penalized in people’s minds because he’s 23, instead of 20 or 19, past production at the same age and same level in comparison to Martinez and Valera be damned. The unknown of the latter 2 is why they are propped up. What they could do at those levels, instead of Jones who is approaching the most development he can get in the minors facing that level of competition.

And Espino doesn’t belong in the conversation. He’s my #1 and has been for some time. Espino, Freeman, Jones is an easy top 3 for me. Any order of Arias, Rocchio, Martinez, and Valera can be next, and that’s a testament to what I believe is one of the best farm systems in baseball, especially from 21 years old on down.

Good info on Jones/Valera/Martinez/Espino.

FWIW, Lindor was now drafted over 10 years ago. Just saying.

Damn, I'm ready for some young blood to get here! Jones, Arias, Freeman, Valera plus all the great pitching prospects. Starting in 2023 this team could look significantly different.

…as long a they remain patient and don’t start trading these prospects away, in an effort to accelerate contending.

So who is our SS/2B combination in three years? The candidates are: Amed Rosario, Andres Gimenez, Owen Miller, Ernie Clement, Gilbert Arias, Tyler Freeman, Angel Martinez, Brayan Rocchio, Aaron Bracho, Carson Tucker, Jose Tena, and possibly a few others.

Miller and Clement are being groomed to be utility guys... Amed has two seasons left on his contract, so I don't think he's a long term piece...

My early money is on Arias at SS and Freeman at 2B.

Gimenez though I think will be a player as well.. I wouldn't be surprised if one of those three ends up in LF (Gimenez has the greatest speed and said before he would play in the OF)

If it ever got to the point where we'd be sticking Gimenez in LF I'd hope we explored trades because that is a waste of talent.

Maybe, maybe not... He should actually be a good OF on paper with his speed and arm...

Nolan Jones, over his last 72 games (he’s played 82 total):
.254/.367/.484
.230 ISO
127 wRC+
13.8% BB
28.4% K
33 XBH
7 SB

He had a brutal first 10 games and has been great ever since.

Regardless of rankings or predicting which MIF prospects will be playing, this organization is headed for a logjam of MIFers and those that don't falter will have to be dealt. I don't recall ever seeing anything quite like it. With that in mind does anyone else think Amed's stock is increasing nicely?
