R.I.P Kobe Bryant

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm in complete shock... Tragic

I'm skeptical about this until it has been confirmed -- there are likely going to be a lot of bogus rumors floating around as the vultures of social media look for a chance to get more "hits".

But I certainly hope it isn't true -- that's going overboard. He was a great player, but his life is no more important/valuable than that of any of the any other former NBA players who have died. The next time a former player dies, and the games go on as normal would be kind of an insult.

Nuggets/Rockets is scheduled to tip off any minute. NBATV not sure if the game will be played, but they are assuming it will be.

I also understand your point, but I think about it from a different angle - Kobe was young, only a few years out of the league, obviously a Hall of Famer and one of the all time greats, but most importantly had a lot of ties to a lot of current players. Looking at it from that perspective, I would understand 100% if they opted to cancel/reschedule games today.

I definitely get your reasoning but Kobe is a top 10 player all time, one of the biggest sports icons of all time, and his death has occurred in a very tragic and unexpected manner

I don't know man. He was the best player of his era and his death so soon after retirement, at a young age is completely out of the ordinary.

When was the last time a dominant player died young in some accident?

If Jordan or Shaq died out of the blue, I think they'd do the same.

I always think of Clemente because my dad tells me how shocked he was when his death was reported. That was during the off-season but I imagine they would’ve cancelled games for someone like that.

Single most shocking celebrity death of my lifetime
Along with a player dying on the field while playing for Benfica, the soccer team i support, this is right up there for me too. I'm speechless.

For the Lakers...sure. I'd get that. But the entire league? Seems like a very L.A.-centric way of viewing the world. Lots of players and lots of fans in other cities aren't particularly Kobe Bryant fans. Games aren't cancelled when a particular player loses a family member, etc. -- his own team still plays their game. But the entire league is going to shut down because of the death of another player many players never even met?

It's just celebrity culture gone nuts as far as I'm concerned. It's kind of like when so many people freaked out when Princess Diana died...even though she was only someone from another country whom they had never met or seen in person, and seen on TV only rarely. Anyway, the Lakers don't play today so that's not an issue anyway.
